Your Day to Day:

Location: Atlanta, GA area; Hybrid [1-2 days a week in the office]

We seek a highly skilled and visionary Senior Data Scientist to join our team and lead the development and enhancement of our demand forecasting models.

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will evolve our demand forecasting capabilities. Your technical expertise, analytical mindset, and industry knowledge will be pivotal in developing and refining models that predict demand accurately. Your work will impact decision-making processes at all levels, from daily tactical operations to long-term strategic planning, driving commercial performance across our hotels and meeting our guests' needs efficiently. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners across Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Operations to tackle complex business challenges and propel our growth.

Purpose of the Role –

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will enhance our demand forecasting models, integral to our revenue management capabilities. Your technical expertise, analytical mindset, and industry knowledge will be pivotal in developing and refining models that predict demand accurately. Your work will significantly impact decision-making processes, from daily tactical operations to long-term strategic planning, driving commercial performance across our hotels and efficiently meeting our guests' needs. You will collaborate with cross-functional partners in Product, Engineering, Marketing, Sales, Finance, and Operations to address complex business challenges and drive our growth.

Key Accountabilities

  • Design, develop, and optimize advanced demand forecasting models using statistical, machine learning, and AI techniques.

  • Ensure models are scalable, efficient, and accurate in predicting future demand patterns.

  • Identify and engineer key features that enhance the predictive power of demand forecasting models.

  • Continuously evaluate and update feature sets based on evolving business needs and data availability.

  • Develop and implement robust evaluation metrics and validation strategies to assess model performance.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including data engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver actionable insights.

  • Present findings, model outcomes, and business implications to technical and non-technical audiences.

  • Stay current with the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and demand forecasting methodologies.

  • Explore and experiment with new techniques and tools to continuously improve model performance.

  • Lead the end-to-end lifecycle of demand forecasting projects, from ideation and development to deployment and monitoring.

  • Oversee the deployment of demand forecasting models into production environments.

  • Monitor model performance and implement processes for regular updates and maintenance.

What We Need From You:

Education –

Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in a quantitative field or an equivalent combination of education and work-related experience.

Experience

Typically a minimum of 7+ years of progressive work related experience with demonstrated proficiency in advanced quantitative analysis.

Technical Skills and Knowledge

  • Data Science and Analysis

  • Knowledge of time series analysis and forecasting techniques.

  • Expertise in machine learning algorithms (e.g., regression, decision trees, ensemble methods).

  • Ability to develop custom algorithms and models tailored to specific business requirements.

  • Proficiency in optimizing model implementation and algorithms for performance and scalability.

  • Knowledge of econometric models and their application in demand forecasting and economic data analysis.

  • Knowledge of the theoretical foundations that underpin optimization techniques such as constrained optimization, convexity, convergence, and computational complexity.

  • Computing, Programming and Tools

  • Advanced skills in programming languages such as Python and R.

  • Experience in parallelizing large-scale computations.

  • Proficiency in data querying, cleaning, and preprocessing techniques using SQL, PySpark, and Python libraries.

  • Proficiency in version control systems, e.g., Git.

  • Proficiency in developing and deploying products in cloud environment, e.g., GCP.

  • Software Development and Industry Knowledge

  • Familiarity with software development best practices, including code reviews, testing, and continuous integration/continuous deployment.

  • Understanding of the specific industry and market dynamics relevant to demand forecasting.

  • Familiarity with revenue management principles and practices in the travel industry.
