The Staff Instrument & Controls (I&C) Engineer will execute Instrument and Controls Engineering design activities for minor to major scale controls only and EPC ammonia refrigeration projects in food, beverages and cold storage industrial facilities. Responsible for providing Controls Systems and Instrumentation design deliverables for the project(s) in the front end, detailed design, construction, and start-up phases. This role will include developing programming automation and control systems involving PLCs (programmable logic controllers) for PLC supervisory control systems in the industrial refrigeration segment.

  • Prepare instrumentation engineering/design deliverables, including Instrument Index, Instrument Data Sheets, Instrument Installation Details, Instrument Location Plans, Wiring Diagrams, and Loop Diagrams.

  • Prepare control systems (DCS and/or PLC) and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS) Data Sheets.

  • Prepare controls design deliverables, including I/O list, Process Control Narratives, Graphic Sketches, Cause & Effect Diagrams, Alarm Rationalization, and manage third party control system suppliers to comply with the control system design requirements, including participating in Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT).

  • Prepare I&C purchase specifications, review bids, make technical recommendations and manage the overall purchase, review of I&C packages, and review of vendor documentation.

  • Develop P&ID's for various projects.

  • Perform process measurements such as temperature, pressure, flow, level, analyzers, and control valves. Utilize knowledge of various technologies for selecting appropriate I&C application.

  • Perform preliminary sizing calculations for instruments such as orifice plates, controls valves, relief valves, and thermowells.

  • Develop level sketches in conjunction with multiple departments.

  • Responsible for applying knowledge of commonly used I&C engineering/design concepts, principles, practices, codes, and procedures within the engineering services industry.

  • Provide leadership and guidance for less experienced engineers.

  • Responsible for compliance with company and project site safety policies.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Complies with all policies and standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or related degree from an ABET accredited program and minimum 3 years of applicable engineering experience, consulting preferred.

  • Master Degree in above Engineering programs or related and minimum 2 years of applicable engineering experience, consulting preferred.

  • Strong knowledge in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.

  • Proficient in standard engineering techniques and procedures.

  • Proficient in Smart Plant instrumentation (SPI) in the development of instrument datasheets.

  • Strong computer skills. (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite)

  • Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem-solving skills.

  • Must have or be able to obtain a Transportation Worker Identification Card. (TWIC)

  • Engineers in Training-EIT Certification Preferred.
