Description

We are seeking a highly motivated individual for the position of Post Doctoral Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Bhavya Doshi.

The Doshi Laboratory is interested in processes that drive alloantibody and anti-drug antibody responses in gene and protein-based therapies, with a particular emphasis on hemophilia. The hemophilias are X-linked bleeding disorders resulting from defects in coagulation factor VIII or IX. These disorders manifest as frequent bleeding episodes either spontaneously or in response to minor trauma. These patients are treated with either prophylactic infusions of factor VIII/IX concentrates, or more recently, non-factor therapeutics. The major complication of factor replacement therapy is the development of neutralizing alloantibodies, or inhibitors, in up to 30% of patients. These antibodies are most common in patients with severe factor VIII deficiency. The Doshi lab investigates the reasons behind the enhanced immune response to factor VIII with the goal of leveraging this mechanism for targeted therapeutic development and interventions. Additional projects in the laboratory are focused on gene transfer for hemophilia and the immune response to adeno-associated viral vectors.

The postdoctoral fellow will have a terminal degree (e.g., PhD, MD, MD-PhD) and will, under the direction/guidance of a mentor (Bhavya Doshi), assume responsibility for a specific, on-going research project. The postdoc experience will serve to extend, refine and enhance skills necessary for professional and career development, and will enable the individual to broaden their scientific background by acquiring new research capabilities. It is expected that this individual will conduct independent scholarly research, and will contribute directly to the overall research goals of the project and the research group. Postdocs will be expected to participate in project planning, recording and interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results. Postdocs will also be expected to acquire technical, lab management, and manuscript/grant writing skills; and participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. Postdoctoral fellows also may be required to supervise junior lab members, develop new methods and protocols for research, and assist with the development of other research projects in the lab. Experience with or interest in immunologic and basic biological techniques including molecular biology, tissue culture, vertebrate animal work, human genetics, ELISAs, flow cytometry, and factor assays is preferred.
