This position supports research MR imaging for the Center for Systems Imaging Core (CSIC). CSIC provides core imaging services for Emory investigators with sponsored research that requires MRI scans for human subject study participants, or pre-clinical scans, as applicable. Ideal candidate should have knowledge of research IRB guidelines that govern human subject research, or IACUC guidelines that govern pre-clinical research, or be able to quickly acquire and apply this knowledge.

This position will assist with research MRI scans at all CSIC MRI scanner sites (3 locations). While this position will have a primary location of work, the staff person will be trained at all MRI scanner sites and will rotate between sites to assure familiarity with protocols scanned at each site. Candidate will provide backup support when other MRI Techs are out of the office and must be able to work a flexible schedule. Position requires evening or Saturday hours as needed to support scan appointments. This is not a remote work position.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides quality care to the Research subjects/participants receiving MRI research radiological procedures.

  • Communicates subjects/participants needs and responses through appropriate verbal correspondence.

  • Ensures all MRI Safety screening documentation is complete and accurate regarding all aspects of subjects/participants care.

  • Responsible for proper operation of imaging and specialty equipment as well as keeps abreast of uses of medical devices.

  • Assumes responsibility and provides direct care for all procedures performed in this area.

  • Ensures that subjects/participants have been prepared for procedures.

  • Provides quality care to subjects/participants during procedures.

  • Assists with subject/participants and family education.

  • May support in research and related activities.

  • Demonstrates an adequate knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy and physiology.

  • Provides more complex technical care necessary to meet identified subject's needs.

  • Assists with performing and planning multiple research procedures in appropriate time sequence.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs MRI scans/exams and procedures for research studies.

  • Adheres to established protocols and ensures quality imaging.

  • Operates the MRI machine and other imaging support equipment and performs periodic quality assurance checks.

  • Adheres to MRI safety protocols.

  • Assure MRI screening form, MR Requisition Form, and signed Informed Consent form are received for each study team participant to confirm scheduled appointment.

  • Make appointment status updates in CSIC’s online scheduling system as applicable.

  • Maintains knowledge of appropriate CSI policies and procedures, as well as MR procedures, and regularly updates knowledge.

  • Transfer/upload MR imaging data to research teams or clinical trial sponsors as outlined by research protocol requirements.

  • Keeps detailed study participant imaging records and ensures that records are maintained according to research protocol guidelines and applicable state/federal guidelines.

  • Perform all post-scan cleaning protocols within scanner/magnet room as applicable.

  • Assists MRI staff with other tasks as applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be a graduate of an accredited school of Radiologic Technology and at a minimum be registered with the ARRT.

  • CPR certification required.

  • Advanced certification in MR preferred.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience with research imaging processes and procedures preferred.

  • At least (1) year MRI technologist working experience is preferred.

PLEASE NOTE: Position will rotate between all of CSIC’s MRI scanner sites, but primary location for position will be Health Sciences Research Building II. Must be willing to travel to different locations and have a flexible schedule to work evenings and Saturday hours as needed.
