The Intermodal & Automotive (IMAU) division constitutes 62% of NS’ volume and 34% of revenue for a Fortune 500 company. Our team owns Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for our terminal operations, as well as process improvement, analytics, and innovation projects. This role requires end-to-end management of technological, analytical, and process improvement projects. Our mandate is to deliver bottom-line improvement in capital efficiency, productivity, and cost savings. Our team takes a whole of business approach, and this role provides ample opportunity to work and deliver impact across multiple functions.

Primary Purpose:

  • Direct Process Improvement projects through the Define, Measure, Analyze, Improve, and Control (DMAIC) methodology.

  • Gather, analyze, & present data analysis to measure Intermodal & Automotive operations performance and provide decision-making support to stakeholders.

  • Seek operational improvement opportunities within our network and operations teams and enact projects to drive sustainable changes.

Principal Duties:

  • Evaluate and prioritize projects depending on operational and commercial strategic needs.

  • Deep dive operational issues through a combination of data and anecdotal sources to implement process changes, corrective actions, and service level recovery.

  • Manage parallel projects of 8-12 weeks in length.

  • Evaluate and prioritize projects depending on operational and commercial strategic needs.

  • Address gaps in organizational dynamics, processes, and systems to ensure that projects are completed within scope and on-time.

  • Work cross-functionally with departments such as Operations, Capital Planning, Technology Product, and Commercial teams to enact whole of business solutions.

  • Devise and disseminate project-related information to multiple stakeholders to support operational initiatives.

  • Synthesize, analyze, and present findings from data and anecdotal sources to operational and commercial decisionmakers.

  • Compile & blend data from multiple sources, e.g. relational stores, flat-files, APIs.

  • Write, debug, and update complex SQL statements.

  • Create reports and interactive dashboards on a variety of BI platforms.

  • Directly contribute to the IM&AU Operations Excellence Project Roadmap.

  • Champion NS Process Improvement Methodology within IMAU Operations.
