Description
This Developer will be part of a multi-year Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) program that will improve how we collect, maintain, and use data to ensure the safety and performance of the assets throughout their lifecycle…from planning to retirement. This program will deliver industry-standard technology and processes that simplify and streamline how work gets done to help us build a more sustainable future of energy.
Just rolled out a new app to engage with all Individuals in the field, which includes 3500 users. The users are not just employees but also 3rd party vendors etc. working on assets.
Job Summary
The Developer Sr, Application for Asset Technology/Geographic Information System (GIS) position within Gas Technology Delivery will work with limited supervision to design and develop custom applications to support the GIS Technology portfolio, as well as the build and support internal applications. It is expected that this resource is a subject matter expert with deep technical knowledge within the ESRI and associated mapping Technology area. This role will complete projects which will include standard development using a variety of languages, web-based technologies, cognitive services, integration technologies, and native mobile applications.
This role reports to the Supervisor, IT (GIS)
Development Sr, Application – Essential Duties Include
• Develop solutions that leverage (when COTS system) rather than customization.
• Create and drive completion of Technical Design documents.
• Collaborate with junior team members to plan for coding and overall program development.
• Translate specifications to create code that meets performance expectations/coding requirements.
• Modify existing software to correct errors, to adapt it to new hardware, or to upgrade interfaces and improve performance based on specifications, with supervision.
• Troubleshoot, debug, maintain and improve existing software.
• Plan and participate in system testing as required.
• Develop technology solutions and corresponding documentation to highly complex problems using deep technical expertise and creativity.
• Plan and participate in deployment activities to implement designed solutions.
• Maintain and follow production support processes focused on identification and mitigation of root cause.
• Flex to meet customer demands (production support and project work).
• Prioritize work and deliver on project commitments.
• Provide on-call support both solving issues independently as well as assisting other personnel
• Support and mentor less experienced personnel.
• Considerable interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively is essential.
• Ensure strategies are aligned with Technology Organization goals and strategies.
Skills/Experience
• Bachelor’s degree in MIS, Computer Science or a related field
• 3 to 5 years’ experience with GIS application development, or support is required
• Experience with C#, Java or other object-oriented programming language is required.
• Working experience of ESRI's .NET or, Java SDK required
• Knowledge of Esri’s REST API preferred
• Experience with Python is preferred.
• Experience in the utility industry is preferred.
• Experience with Oracle is preferred.
• Experience with TypeScript and Angular preferred
• Working knowledge of ESRI JavaScript API preferred.
• Experience with Windows server administration and configuration preferred
• A deep, comprehensive knowledge of the Software Development Life Cycle and development principles
• Interest in and passion for learning and working in a fast-paced environment
• A deep understanding of ESRI and related mapping tools and applications
• Ability to handle multiple assignments and conflicting priorities
• Ability to work with business partners and peers of varying levels of technical proficiency
• Experience with all size projects, enhancement projects and production support
• Experience with various sized projects, enhancement projects and production support
• Ability to identify root cause for routine problems while working with other technical staff
• Deep experience creating Technical Design Documents and Specifications
• Deep experience with to software development projects.
• Ability to develop unit testing of code components or complete applications.
• Experience in system development practices, methodology and tools
• Experience with Agile delivery; Kanban; Scrum
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills
• Ability to provide on-call support both solving issues independently as well as assisting other, less experienced on-call personnel
• Advanced understanding various technical principles, theories and concepts
• Broad understanding of a wide range of technical areas
• Excellent communication skills including the ability to translate complex or technical ideas into non-technical language
• Experience with ITIL processes and various programming languages.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $124000.00/yr.
Southern Compnay has a competitive 401k; 5 weeks PTO, flexability to choose the days in office that are needed.
Workplace Type
This is a hybrid position in Atlanta,GA.
