Osmose Utilities Services GIS Engineer in Atlanta, Georgia

Osmose Utilities Services is seeking a skilled and experienced GIS Engineer to join our team. This position will be based out of our downtown headquarters in Atlanta. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) with a particular emphasis on database management, data process definition, and quality management. This role is crucial for supporting our mission to deliver high-quality utility services and innovative solutions to our clients.

Responsibilities

Database Management: Manage and maintain GIS databases to ensure data integrity, accuracy, and accessibility. Specific tasks include:

  • Design, implement, and optimize spatial databases and processes to support data preparation for delivery to customers.

  • Perform regular database/GIS database audits to identify and resolve discrepancies.

  • Ensure seamless integration of GIS data with other IT systems.

  • Document database structures and processes and train the GIS team.

Data Process Definition: Define and implement data processes to streamline GIS operations. Responsibilities include:

  • Analyze existing data workflows and identify areas for improvement.

  • Develop standard operating procedures for data collection, processing, and analysis.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure effective data sharing and utilization.

  • Work with software development team to implement automation tools to enhance data processing efficiency

Quality Management: Oversee the quality management of GIS data to ensure high standards are maintained. This includes:

  • Establish and enforce data quality standards and best practices.

  • Define regular quality assessments and implement corrective actions as needed.

  • Provide training and support to team members on data quality protocols.

  • Monitor and report on data quality metrics and performance indicators.

Technical Support: Provide technical support and troubleshooting for GIS-related issues.

Reporting and Documentation: Generate and maintain detailed documentation for all GIS activities and processes.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geography, Geospatial Sciences, Computer Science, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in GIS, with a strong focus on database management, data process definition, and quality management.

  • Proficiency in GIS software such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.

  • Experience with spatial databases such as PostgreSQL/PostGIS, SQL Server, or Oracle Spatial.

  • Experience with GIS systems and GIS data collection tools, such as Esri FieldMaps, Survey123, and Trimble GPS devices.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

  • Attention to detail and a commitment to data accuracy and quality

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with programming languages such as Python, R, or SQL.

  • Knowledge of utility services and infrastructure management.

  • Experience with web-based GIS applications and tools.

  • Certifications in GIS or related fields
