Primary Purpose:

Directs, supports, and participates in activities associated with maintaining and improving intermodal lift equipment to provide safe, efficient, economical and reliable equipment to support intermodal operations.

Principal Duties:

-Establishes and oversees NS’ intermodal assets maintenance policies and compliance system wide

-Analyzes, supports and improves NS’ equipment reliability and availability

-Provides technical expertise to enable prompt return of equipment to service

-Manages issues related to electrical, control, hydraulic and mechanical systems

-Identifies machine improvement opportunities and implements solutions

-Acts as subject matter expert on intermodal equipment

-Maintains and updates electronic work order system

-Leads or assists troubleshooting remotely and on-site

-Develops and establishes alternative solutions

-Establishes working relationships

-Performs terminal audits and inspections

-Provides technical training as needed

-Position requires seven day a week responsibility, emergency call-outs, and frequent overnight travel when assistance for troubleshooting is required

Job-Related Experience:

• Minimum Level: 7 years

• Preferred Level: 10+ years

Education:

Preferred Level: Bachelor's Degree (BS)

Engineering - Electrical Engineering

Engineering - Mechanical Engineering

Licenses / Certifications:

Required: None listed

Skills and Abilities:

-Extensive working knowledge of electrical and control systems

-Understanding of system automation and industrial control systems including software logics and hardware

-Working knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, pneumatic systems and mechanical systems

-Hands-on experience with troubleshooting electric drives, motors and sensors

-Understanding technical schematics

-Exceptional troubleshooting skills

-Working knowledge of maintenance planning

-Working knowledge maintenance software

-Extensive hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing heavy/off-road equipment

-Experience with providing technical training

-Strong leadership

-Time management

-Planning and organization

-Verbal and written communication

-MS Office Suite
