Confidential Employer Welder/Fitter in Aston, Pennsylvania

Welder / Fitter / Metal Fabricator will promote the growth and profitability of the company by ensuring all fabricated components meet and exceed the quality requirements as set forth by the company, achieve the highest possible efficiency on all work using advanced fabrication techniques, and train other fitters and welders within the welding department while adhering to the AS9100D standard. 

Level 1 Responsibilities

  • Responsible to maintain a safe, neat and orderly work area
  • Responsible for daily clean-up of area and equipment
  • Responsible to check own work and compare with approved drawings, request first piece approvals as well as final inspection on parts produced
  • Fabricate and assemble metal structures and fixtures utilizing of welders, cutters, shapers and measuring tools according to customer or employer specifications.
  • Monitor the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material. Preheat work pieces prior to welding or bending, using torches or heating furnaces.
  • Lay out, measure, and mark dimensions and reference lines on material, according to drawings or templates, using calculators, scribes, dividers, squares, and rulers.
  • Examine work pieces for defects and measure work pieces with straightedges or templates to ensure conformance with specifications.
  • Clamp, hold, tack-weld, heat-bend, grind or bolt component parts to obtain required configurations and positions for welding. Prepare all material surfaces to be welded, ensuring that there is no loose or thick scale, slag, rust, moisture, grease, or other foreign matter.
  • Assist other departments and Perform other related or non-related duties as assigned

Level 2 Responsibilities

  • All responsibilities of a Level 1 in addition to responsibilities listed below.
  • Cursory knowledge of jig and fixture building
  • Ability to assemble parts and pieces for a variety of jobs to a high degree of accuracy
  • MIG and TIG weld all materials with a high degree of accuracy
  • Meet and Maintain Level 2 Qualifications

Level 3 Responsibilities

  • All responsibilities of a Level 1 and 2 in addition to responsibilities listed below.
  • Train Level 1 and 2 employees when directed
  • Conduct First Piece Inspections for department as required
  • Meet and Maintain Level 3 Qualifications
  • Troubleshoot and Solve problems as needed for level 1 and 2 employees
  • Provide input to supervision into performance evaluations for Level 1 and 2 employees.
  • Act as general assistance to Engineering
  • Design and fabricate jigs, fixtures, and templates required of production and prototype work including First Article containers from blueprints.
  • As Needed, complete the duties of the department Lead or Mentor

Level 1 Qualifications

  • 1+ Years of Experience 
  • Able to meet goals and objectives under direct supervision
  • Basic Understanding of Blueprints and Processes
  • Able to pass certification tests within the first two weeks
  • TIG and MIG welding of aluminum and steel
  • Greater understanding and use of hand tools
  • Ability to troubleshoot basic weld machine issues

Level 2 Qualifications

  • 3 to 5+ Years of Experience
  • Able to meet goals and objectives under general supervision
  • General understanding of Blueprints and Understands the Majority of processes/equipment in the department
  • Able to pick up new techniques quickly and teach others to maximize proficiency of the team
  • In depth understanding of shop tools and machines [hammers, punches, stamps, grinders, drills, drill press, band saw, cold saw, porta band, hand tapping, drill bit sharpening]
  • Ability to troubleshoot and fix many weld machine issues to maximize efficiency and productivity
  • Fixture and jig building

Level 3 Qualifications

  • 7 to 10+ Years of Experience
  • Able to meet goals and objectives under inimal supervision
  • Expert Understanding of Blueprints and All Processes/Equipment in the department
  • Proficient and fixture and jig building
  • Exceptionally strong communication skills
  • Ability to do complex layout using combo squares, scales, dividers, tape measure, calculator

Preferred Skills

  • Weld certifications
  • Forklift certification
  • Rigging training
  • CAD or similar drafting program knowledge
  • Engineering training
  • Leadership skills
  • Strong communication skills

Working Conditions

  • The physical environment requires the employee to work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
  • May be requested to work overtime and weekends as needed.
  • Safety Glasses, Durable pants, and Steel Toe Shoes/Boots are always required to be worn.  Hearing protection, safety gloves, high visibility vests, and other PPE to be provided on an as needed basis.
  • No loose clothing is permitted on the shop floor.
  • Work involves considerable stooping, bending, walking and standing.
  • The ability to talk, listen, and speak clearly
  • The ability to lift and/or carry equipment/objects greater than 50lbs.
  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FLSA and other federal, state, and local standards, including meeting quantitative and/or qualitative productivity standards.
