Summary This position is located in the Cash Management Department of Consolidated Patient Account Center (CPAC) serving as the Mail and File Clerk at the Asheville VAMC in Asheville, NC. Responsibilities THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION Major duties: Reviews incoming miscellaneous materials such as mail, publications, directives, etc., and presorts these into action and/or information categories. Routes non-controlled materials and prepares control and routing sheets for correspondence or other materials. Maintains suspense files for replies and follow up on over-due items. Performs administrative and/or clerical tasks in support of various office functions such as establishing and maintaining office files, collating documents, preparing folders, etc. Processes incoming and/or outgoing mail, including the processing of express mail. Performs general mail handling and distribution including sorting, opening, date stamping, classifying, processing, and routing mail. Receives and distributes mail and packages to the appropriate CPAC organization. Maintains logs or records of special items received and/or distributed. Makes scheduled mail runs and conducts pickups or deliveries as required. Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications To apply for this position, you must have the following qualifications: DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT: A current, valid state issued driver's license is required for this position. AND in addition to the state above you must meet one of the following below: GENERAL EXPERIENCE: GS04 You must have one (1) year of general experience, that equipped you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position? General experience is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. OR EDUCATION: Have successfully completed two (2) years of education above the high school level in any field? This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. One year of full-time undergraduate study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial or technical school. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED) OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: Do you possess equivalent combinations of successfully completed post high school education and general experience, as described above, may be used to meet total qualification requirements at the GS-04 level. If education is used to meet general experience requirements, then such education must include courses directly related to the work of the position and must have been obtained in an accredited college or university.
