This Opportunity

WSP is searching for a Consultant Civil Engineer for our Charlotte, North Carolina office to be part of our Civil Design service line that supports WSP’s power, industrial, and municipal clientele across the southeast. The following locations will also be considered: Asheville, NC , and Greensboro, NC . The position relies heavily on an ability to interact with clients, team leadership skills, and technical knowledge. The successful candidate will have the ability to work on a breadth of civil projects ranging from erosion and sediment control plans, spill prevention, control, and countermeasure (SPCC) plans, hydraulics and hydrology design, civil grading, and landfill design and closure projects. As a civil engineer, the candidate will be responsible for execution of calculations, design options, reports, agency reviews, and construction drawings for civil design projects. The candidate will have a strong desire to interact with clients and foster long lasting relationships.

Your Impact

  • Participate on small to medium project design teams

  • Assist with scope of work and costing documents for proposals

  • Coordinate with other engineering staff, lead junior team members, project stakeholders and other disciplines to manage an organized approach to project execution

  • Perform professional civil engineering work including design of erosion and sediment control measures in compliance with state requirements, SPCC plans, site grading using AutoCAD Civil3D, hydraulic systems (closed and open conduits), hydrologic analyses, and stormwater management facilities.

  • Assist with permit applications and respond to agency (owner) comments in design

  • Prepare construction drawings and specifications to implement designs

  • Assist with the preparation of client-ready reports and drawings

  • Evaluate design options and understand cost/benefit of solutions

  • Interested in training and mentoring junior staff

  • Intermediate knowledge in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint software

  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements

Who You Are

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering

  • Fundamentals of Engineering registration in North Carolina, or ability to obtain within one year

  • 3-5 years of professional engineering experience

  • Valid state driver’s license. Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening

  • Must be willing to travel to project sites and business meetings, as required

  • Demonstrates commitment to high quality technical performance utilizing current technical knowledge and applications

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Civil design software tools

  • Intermediate analytical and design skills and ability to solve complex technical problems in professional discipline.

  • Provides guidance to entry-level engineers, with strict adherence to QA/QC.

  • Strong interpersonal verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with employees at all levels of the organization.

  • Exhibits learned practices to produce high quality technical and professional deliverables on projects and proposals.

  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.

  • Strong ability to quickly adapt to change and demonstrate flexibility to a variety of schedules and hours to meet business needs.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering, or related discipline.
