We are looking for a visionary Open Data Solutions Architect to join our dynamic team and lead the charge in transforming our data architecture to be open, scalable, and user-friendly.

The Open Data Solutions Architect will design, implement, and oversee open data solutions that enable seamless data sharing, integration, and collaboration across various platforms. This role supports the AWS Open Data program (https://aws.amazon.com/opendata/), leveraging AWS technologies to facilitate and optimize open data projects. The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker with a robust technical background, adept at working with diverse stakeholders to deliver scalable and secure open data architectures.

with experience in the following key areas:

  • Executive Speaking and Presentation Skills – White board, small and large group presentations

  • Technical – Web Services development/deployment experience, cloud computing

  • Operational – Web site/services operations, management, and security

  • Economic and business – RFP/Acquisition support; Technical architecture; understanding market trends; cost benefit analysis

  • Advisory/Consulting experience with the Open Data community

Basic Qualifications

  • 2+ years of design, implementation, or consulting in applications and infrastructures experience.

  • 4+ years of specific technology domain areas (e.g., software development, cloud computing, systems engineering, infrastructure, security, networking, data & analytics) experience.

  • 2+ years of IT development or implementation/consulting in the software or Internet industries experience.

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Industry Experience:

  • Experience working within software development or Internet-related industries.

  • Experience migrating or transforming legacy customer solutions to the cloud.

  • Experience in technology/software sales, pre-sales, or consulting.

  • Experience with AWS technologies.

  • Technical Skills:

  • Experience with GitHub and CodeBuild, or similar build infrastructure.

  • Experience with data engineering and data sharing best practices, especially data lakes (S3, CloudFront, Athena, Redshift Spectrum, CloudFormation).

  • Experience with Identity and Access Management (IAM) and AWS security best practices.

  • Experience with Open Source and/or Open Data technical or scientific communities.

  • Programming/scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash).

On Data Specific Preferred Qualifications

  • Build Infrastructure: Experience with GitHub and CodeBuild, or similar build infrastructure.

  • Data Engineering: Knowledge of data engineering and data sharing best practices, especially with data lakes such as S3, CloudFront, Athena, Redshift Spectrum, and CloudFormation.

  • Security Practices: Experience with IAM and AWS security best practices.

  • Community Engagement: Experience with Open Source and/or Open Data technical or scientific communities.

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in programming/scripting languages such as Python and Bash.

Key job responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Architectural Design: Develop and implement scalable, secure, and efficient open data architectures that facilitate data sharing and integration across multiple platforms.

  • Data Management: Ensure robust data governance, quality, and security measures are in place for all open data initiatives.

  • Integration: Design and implement APIs and data pipelines to integrate various data sources and ensure seamless data flow.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including data scientists, engineers, and business analysts, to understand their data needs and provide tailored solutions.

  • Innovation: Stay abreast of the latest trends and technologies in open data, proposing and implementing innovative solutions to enhance data accessibility and usability.

  • AWS Open Data Program Support: Leverage AWS technologies to support and optimize open data projects in line with the AWS Open Data program, enabling data sharing, analysis, and building services on top of open data.

  • Team Collaboration: Work with a team of business developers, technical program managers, and data scientists to develop an updated data sharing architecture to improve customer experience, reduce costs, and improve data collection/accountability.

  • Documentation: Create comprehensive architectural and procedural documentation to support the ongoing management and evolution of the open data systems.

  • Compliance: Ensure all open data initiatives comply with relevant regulations and standards, such as GDPR, CCPA, and other data protection laws.
