Amazon Software Development Manager, Accounts Payable Tech in North America in Arlington, Virginia

The Amazon Finance Automation Technology Team is looking for an experienced Software Development Manager to play a key role in building the next generation of distributed, scalable financial systems.

You will work with other Amazon business and engineering teams in planning, designing, building, and supporting systems. Your primary responsibilities will include developing a team of engineers, managing the team's devops processes, defining and publishing the team's charter and vision, managing priorities across groups of customers, goal-setting, and roadmap management.

Your team will architect highly efficient systems, making a tradeoff between scalability, performance, and user functionality needs using expert knowledge in software development technologies. You will develop long term domain/technology strategies and significantly influence the process and engineering standards on the team. You will lead design reviews and offer feedback on design, integration, performance, and scalability. You will serve as an authority in the area of technical and domain expertise and mentor, develop, and train the engineers.

The ideal candidate for this role will be technically strong and able to dive deep, particularly with AWS, and have prior experience managing customer-facing teams. They will also have experience in the Finance domains and will have excellent verbal and written communication appropriate to engage with all levels at Amazon. Lastly, they will be a great leader who takes pride in and genuinely enjoys hiring, developing, mentoring, motivating, and retaining the best engineers.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of engineering team management experience

  • 7+ years of engineering experience

  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
