We are looking for a Junior Cartographer to join us in St. Louis, MO.

Responsibilities:

  • Compiling or updating maritime features and attributes on low complexity data sets for the SFH DNC/ENC/CPENC/LPC/DWC/TOD/SMENC/AML portfolio on ESRI-based Vector-Cartographic Production System (VCPS) enterprise Geospatial Information System production environment virtual desktop application (VDA) workstations. Compilation will be from a variety of sources such as rasterized nautical charts, ENC, digital hydrographic survey data, NtM, topographic maps, orthorectified imagery, and chart catalogs.
  • Source evaluation of rasterized nautical charts, ENC, TOD, digital hydrographic or bathymetric survey data, Notices to Mariners (NtM), topographic maps orthorectified imagery, chart catalogs and a variety of Open Source or government-furnished data sets, and then recommend optimal source/s to be included in low complexity source package.
  • Perform a quality control check on DNC/ENC/CPENC/LPC/DWC/TOD/SMENC/AML on low complexity data against the sources used and identify discrepancies. Document features and attribution that are not in compliance with the sources used orNGAguidance (e.g. DNC Bulletin, ENC Encoding Guide). After the Contractor has made its review and assessment/s,NGAwill perform a final approval assessment of the DNC/ENC/CPENC/LPC/DWC/TOD/SMENC/AML.

Required Skills:

  • TS/SCIClearancerequired.
  • 1 year of demonstrated cartographic finishing, feature extraction from maps, charts or various imagery sources, attribution population.
  • 1 year of demonstratedexperienceusing ESRI ArcMap or ArcGIS Pro.
  • Demonstratedexperienceloading raster and vector files for viewing/reviewing multiple overlapping data sets.

Desired Skills:

  • Experiencecreating, editing, and manipulating shapefiles, geodatabases, and features.
  • Experienceexporting data in multiple formats, predominantly standard MILSPEC as well as shapefiles.
  • Knowledge of generalization rules.
  • Experienceusing imagery for the purposes of nautical chart compilation.
  • Experiencecombining digital cartography, computer technology, GIS, cartographic and geospatial production techniques, remote sensing, photogrammetry, and digital data formats.
  • Experienceordering, manipulating, and interpreting various types of satellite imagery used as a source for feature extraction (coastline, etc.).
  • Experienceperforming manual or automated bulk quality che ks.
  • Knowledge of geospatial database content management.
  • Knowledge of symbolization rules (how symbols are used to portray features).
  • Experienceworking with geospatial data in a multi-user enterprise environment.
