Job Summary

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is pleased to announce a cluster hiring initiative in biomanufacturing. We seek to expand our strength in developing ground-breaking research and solutions related to industrial biotechnology and biopharmaceutical manufacturing. This interdisciplinary approach combines expertise in synthetic biology, chemical biology, gene-editing and delivery technologies, cell and tissue engineering, process development engineering, manufacturing methodologies, and robotics for precision manufacturing. In line with UTA’s strategic research areas of Health and the Human Condition and Data-Driven Discovery, the goal is to make UTA and North Texas a leader in advanced biomanufacturing innovation. This requires a collaborative and multi-interdisciplinary approach involving scientists and engineers from diverse backgrounds, working together to advance capabilities and innovation in early- and advanced-stage product development, scale-up, and manufacturing processes. Individuals with research interests, including innovative approaches to production, processing, or scale-up/scale-out optimization of biofuels, biologics & pharmaceuticals, agri-tech, food-tech, viruses & vaccines, or cell-based technologies, are strongly encouraged to apply.

The ideal candidate will advance learning and knowledge through research, teaching, service, and commercialization in disciplines in our College of Engineering and College of Science.

The new faculty hires will bridge disciplines across the colleges and their departments, stimulating innovative research and teaching efforts. Candidates are expected to demonstrate the ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative, engaging, and dynamic environment comprising individuals with various backgrounds, skills, and perspectives. We seek candidates with funded research programs who can produce research and scholarly or creative achievements that enhance the program and the discipline. A strong promise of extramural grant funding will also be considered for Assistant Professor applicants. New faculty will be expected to deliver high-quality teaching using evidence-based practices to effectively engage students from various backgrounds and experiences.

The appointments are expected to commence September 1, 2025, for the start of the Fall 2025 semester.

College of Engineering: Areas of priority include upstream and downstream biomanufacturing process development and biochemical engineering. We seek scholars with expertise in engineering cellular and molecular level systems relevant to industrial biotechnology; design and optimization of processes for cell growth, harvesting, separation, and purification; and development of biofabrication technologies, biofabricated materials, and scalable biomanufacturing systems. More information can be found https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/engineering .

College of Science: Areas or priority include synthetic biology, metabolic engineering, molecular biology, protein engineering, molecular genetics, microbiology, cell biology, and chemical synthesis and separation relevant to bioprocesses and biomanufacturing at scale. We seek scholars with expertise in areas relevant to industrial biotechnology, for example: optimizing microorganisms for enzyme and chemical production, developing delivery systems for RNA therapeutics, or gene editing technologies and there use in development of cell-level technologies. More information on our research strengths in the College of Science can be found at https://www.uta.edu/academics/schools-colleges/science .
