Our Network Operations team works around the clock running United’s global operation, safely, reliably and efficiently. From dispatching and routing our fleet to coordinating with maintenance line planning and crew scheduling, this team makes caring connections with our internal customers and ultimately, United’s customers. From pushback to landing, the Network Operations team is the eyes and ears on the ground no matter where in the world your United flight takes you.

Network Operations Control (NOC)

The Network Operations department helps us run a safe, reliable airline, and includes careers in aircraft routing and dispatching, crew scheduling, air traffic control and more.

Job overview and responsibilities

The Field Operations Support (FOS) team supports real time operations through collaborative decision-making, strategic planning, and irregular operations management. This leadership position is responsible for supervising the team’s performance while being a critical team member in the planning and communication of weather, irregular or other operational events. This position plays a critical role in researching and providing innovative solutions to support Network and Airport operations teams, focusing on communication, station readiness and support, network flexibility and situational awareness driving operational success.

  • Manage a team of Representatives to ensures daily roster needs are met in an efficient manner. Calls for shift coverage as needed, in compliance with FAA regulations and in accordance with the CBA contractual requirements. Develops and maintains advanced work schedules for NOC functions

  • Supports weather, irregular ops and other operational planning activities by coordinating with key partners to assess operational needs. Communicates plans to leadership teams in network and airport operations ensuring situational awareness and station preparedness

  • Develops and manages relationships with key partners from Network Operations, Airport Operations and other teams, including Network Directors, Operations Managers, United Express Network Managers, Regional Directors, Solutions and Recovery, AO Senior Regional Managers and Station General Managers

  • Leads, coaches, develops and responsible for performance management of the FOS team

  • Proactively seek opportunities to improve operational success, processes and procedures and develop and implement creative and innovation solutions to improve efficiency

  • Proactively finds opportunities for station support and operational success, and coordinates with policy procedure, safety, and execution teams to prioritize and optimize station capabilities to meet strategic operational and customer needs

NOTE: This position will be 100% onsite at our Arlington Heights facility located at 1501 W. Shure Dr., Arlington Heights IL 60004

Qualifications

What’s needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Associate degree or related experience

  • 7+ years’ of experience in an operational or leadership capacity

  • Knowledge of airport capabilities, Network Operations, Airport Operations, diversion planning, UAX partner capabilities and operational tools

  • Curiosity about all aspects of airline operations and willingness to develop new skills and knowledge

  • Ability to conduct root cause analysis and develop real-time tactical plans during irregular operations

  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical skills

  • Capable of leading in a high stress fast moving environment

  • Proactive management style, highly motivated and self-directed

  • Strong understanding of United performance and customer metrics

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and effective communicator

  • Strong organizational and technical skills

  • Proficient with United applications including; Volare, Unimatic, SSD, etc.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite products (Excel, Teams, Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Must be able to work all shifts and holidays as required, and available to work and/or join calls in off-work hours

  • Able to build and maintain a solid working relationship with a variety of partners

  • Must be willing and able to travel at least 10% domestically for station visits

  • Must be willing and able to work 100% onsite at the AHNOC (Arlington Heights, IL)

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship

  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification

  • Reliable, punctual attendance is an essential function of the position

What will help you propel from the pack (Preferred Qualifications):

  • Master’s degree or related experience

  • 10+ years of operational experience in Airport and/or Network Operations

  • Experience in Station Operations

  • Knowledge of operation, management and logistics principles

  • Knowledge of Safety Management Systems (SMS)

  • Continuous improvement experience
