POSITION SUMMARY

This position, reporting to the Banner Medical Group (BMG) Chief Financial Officer (CFO), is accountable for the administration of provider (physician and APP) production compensation plans, physician compensation reporting, and physician communication regarding results and compensation details. This position monitors workflows and processes associated with the calculation from beginning to end, communication and reporting of compensation for physicians and APP’s. Responsible for the implementation and maintenance of systems as necessary to support the accurate calculation and payment of physician and APP compensation. This individual will work collaboratively with key stakeholders, including: Legal, Human Resources, Payroll, Finance, Operations, Corporate Compliance, and other partners, as needed. Ensures the integrity of compensation data and determines ways to leverage technology to support compensation processes. Consults with key stakeholders regarding compensation plans and related HR processes.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  1. Oversees the execution on the strategic direction of Banner Medical Group provider compensation programs. Utilizes industry best practices and benchmark data to develop and ensure compensation models balance performance, quality of care and patient satisfaction. Provides analysis of compensation trends within the medical group and supports physician compensation and medical group leadership to understand implications of the data.

  2. Acts as a resource for physicians, medical group management and leadership regarding provider productivity, reimbursement, physician compensation and other physician related needs. Serves as the physicians’ liaison to ensure understanding of the compensation plans and structure to drive performance.

  3. Leads the data collection and review of provider’s measures (productivity, quality, etc.) for Banner Medical Group employed providers’ compensation to ensure accurate payments. Uses data to understand trends and impact on the medical group and facility operations. Facilitates audits and regular reporting, in conjunction with established organizational requirements and needs. Assist in the development and implements physician compensation policies and procedures to ensure efficient processing to minimize risks.

  4. Designs and streamlines compensation processes to make them more user-friendly, efficient, and effective in achieving business objectives. Monitors on-call, directorship and administrative compensation methodologies.

  5. Develops communication and materials for Banner Medical Group compensation programs. Educates leaders in Banner Medical Group on the availability and usage of applicable compensation plans. Works collaboratively with system operations and medical directors in a consultative manner to ensure compensation or contractual changes are communicated clearly, consistently, and are tailored to each group’s unique needs.

  6. Works collaboratively with operational and medical leadership to build a strong team. This position must gain and retain respect from the staff, peers, administration, physicians and APPs by functioning as a supportive, visible, leader with a strong open communication style and effective and timely follow-through.

  7. Manages and/or coordinates the work of others. This includes performing recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation efforts. Also includes the coordination and facilitation of work through other key stakeholders and partners. Conducts talent assessments within the department to strengthen team and individual performance through leadership, training, mentoring and coaching. Promotes an environment that inspires exceptional performance, teamwork, and customer service.

  8. Provides significant input into the design of assigned programs as well as expertise in day-to-day management. Has freedom to determine how to best accomplish essential functions within established protocols, and confers with leadership to ensure compensation plans are compatible with BMG vision and objectives. Serves as an essential link to vendors of purchased services, ensuring that compensation services provided meet physician and business needs.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Must possess a strong knowledge of business, finance, and/or accounting as normally obtained through the completion of a bachelor's degree in business administration or related field.

Requires a minimum of five years of experience in physician compensation, finance or a related field. Must have strong business case development and analytical skills. Must also demonstrate an executive presence, and possess strong project management and facilitation skills.

Position requires proficiency in personal software applications, including word processing, generating spreadsheets, and creating graphics/presentations. Excellent written and verbal skills also required. Knowledge of medical professional billing including an understanding of CPT codes, wRVU's, and billing systems and processes.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Accounting or related field. Management experience preferred. Previous experience within a physician/medical group or health care system setting.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.
