Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Professional Coder to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for accurately reviewing edits and provider coded evaluation and management visits in the inpatient and outpatient setting and bedside or clinic performed surgical procedures ensuring proper use of standardized medical codes: ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems. The Coder plays a crucial role in ensuring that our documentation is precise and in compliance with regulatory standards. This position demands a keen eye for detail, a deep understanding of medical terminology, and the ability to maintain patient confidentiality and data integrity. The Professional Coder will work closely with providers, medical staff, and billing departments to streamline coding processes and optimize reimbursement procedures.

Responsibilities*
Accurately code and review provider coded evaluation management, procedures, and diagnoses using ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems and guidelines.
Review and interpret clinical documentation to ensure appropriate code selection.
Collaborate with medical coder compliance specialists, providers and medical staff for clarification and to ensure completeness of coding information.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of coding guidelines, regulations, and industry best practices.
Assist in auditing and reviewing patient records for accuracy and compliance.
Ensure prompt and accurate submission of coded surgical data for billing and reimbursement purposes.
Handle confidential patient information with the utmost discretion and integrity.
Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with the evolving coding standards and medical practices.
Required Qualifications*
Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or Certified Outpatient Coder (COC), or Registered Health Information technician (RHIT), or equivalent.
Extensive knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems.
Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and surgical procedures.
Minimum of 1-2 years of coding experience in a hospital setting.
Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
Proficient in using electronic health records (EHR) and coding software.
Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively with healthcare professionals.
Commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality and data security.
Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy and physiology, treatment methods, patient care assessment, data collection techniques, and coding classification systems.
Desired Qualifications*
Proficient in coding diagnostic radiology and/or Obstetrics and Gynecology.
Prior experience/knowledge in Epic EHR.
Modes of Work
Mobile/Remote - the work requirements allow for the majority or all the work to be completed offsite. On occasion, the employee may be required and must be available to work onsite if necessitated by unit leadership or their designee and/or the job require

Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.
