Summary

The Department of Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology (MCDB) in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts at the University of Michigan seeks applicants for a full-time new Lecturer III position with an anticipated start date of August 26, 2024. This is a non-tenure track position, with a University Year appointment period (i.e., runs September 1 through May 31 each year).

A typical full-time (100% effort) load for a Lecturer III in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts is three (3) courses per semester, or the equivalent in administrative and/or service duties.

The initial appointment period will be one (1) to four (4) years (depending on qualifications), and the appointment may be renewed (based on programmatic need, funding, and performance). The appointment is subject to final approval by the college.

Responsibilities*

Duties and responsibilities for this Lecturer III position are expected to include teaching a 200-level laboratory course in microbiology and developing new exercises and curriculum for this class. The position also necessitates the development of new curriculum at the 400-level. The teaching demands are suited to an individual with a Ph.D. in the biological sciences, with experience in immunology, microbiology, and demonstrated research expertise. This lecturer position will also fill a need in undergraduate advising, and the research experience of the lecturer will be helpful in guiding students through questions regarding independent research and career options. In summary, this position will positively impact a large number of students, facilitating the maintenance of our regular course schedules and increased course offerings necessary to avoid bottlenecks in student progress through our major.

Required Qualifications*

Qualified candidates will have a Ph.D. in the biological sciences or related field prior to the start date of the position and have extensive background in immunology, microbiology, and demonstrated research expertise and a range of instructional expertise. Excellence in teaching and instructional service will be the principal criteria used to select the successful candidate. This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Lecturers Employee Organization, AFL-CIO, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.
