Health Information Technology & Services (HITS) plays a role in the success of Michigan Medicine by providing clinicians, educators, researchers, students, and staff with technology-related information, products, and support. HITS also provides institutional expertise in IT strategy, security, infrastructure, and resource management.
Division Overview
The Academic IT (AcadIT) division in Health Information & Technology Services (HITS) serves both the education and research communities at the University of Michigan Medical School (UMMS). We engage faculty, students, and staff to provide a holistic portfolio of software and applications, infrastructure, device support, and custom projects to promote innovation and excellence. AcadIT is comprised of three areas that work in concert to provide support: 1) Application Services - focused on product management and support for vendor applications; 2) Software Delivery - focused on building custom applications when a vendor solution is not available and offering secure application environments; 3) Technical Services & Engagement - focused on providing support for high-performance computing, device management, data integration, and scientific programming and engagement and outreach with our customers.

The Academic Applications Team is looking for a Business System Analyst Intermediate to support the diverse applications in use at Michigan Medicine. You will report to the manager of the Academic Applications team.
The Academic Applications team within HITS maintains a set of integrated applications that enable research and medical student education. You will partner with faculty, investigators, and study teams to implement application solutions and improve existing ones. You will work with other IT groups to ensure that our researchers continue to focus on pushing research boundaries and that our medical school faculty/staff continue to focus on delivering a top-notch curriculum to our medical students. You will help facilitate application assurance requests and security controls risk assessments to reduce vulnerabilities for existing and new applications by collaborating with the appropriate data owners/stewards, the Michigan Medicine Information Assurance (IA) teams, business owners, and vendors.
Responsibilities*
Work with faculty, researchers, investigators, and users to collect and document requirements for the systems
Partner with the Michigan Medicine Information Assurance teams, business owners, and vendors to facilitate application information assurance requests and application controls risk assessments to reduce vulnerabilities for our applications
Contribute to service enhancement efforts, by identifying and quantifying customer requirements, delineating the gaps between customer requirements and the capabilities of existing technology, services, and resources, and recommending improvements
Develop requirements design documentation for new applications or modifications to existing applications; identify areas for improvement and make recommendations for enhancements
Develop and demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of internal procedures, business processes, and systems within the scope of a functional area
Provide daily operational support for applications as needed. Coordinate with team members, service support groups, and vendors to resolve incidents and requests
Follow procedures and guidelines to solve or escalate incidents and requests. Evaluate problems and determine the priority of responding
Follow-up with customers on incidents and requests. Provide end-user support to encourage product adoption
Required Qualifications*
Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
3+ years of relevant experience supporting Information Systems or business analysis in a large healthcare system or academic institution
2+ years of experience in several business analysis techniques including gathering, translating, prioritizing, and documenting requirements, data and system analysis, design, and system testing
Minimum of 1 year of experience applying security-related technologies, practices, or services
Desired Qualifications*
Experience with business systems analysis methodologies/best practices; Ability to investigate and resolve project issues
Skilled in leading meetings, developing and delivering presentations, and using formal/informal networks to accomplish tasks and objectives
Understand fundamental security-related practices including penetration testing, system and application hardening, identity and access management, authentication, authorization, audit, encryption, firewalls
Knowledge of the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), specifically emphasizing the NIST Special Publications (SP) 800 and 1800 series.
Understanding of the assurance implications associated with cloud-based solutions
Experience using:
ServiceNow, JIRA, or other ticketing systems
LucidChart, Visio, or other process mapping tool
Understand fundamental security-related practices including risk management, incident Response, and Vulnerability Management
Experience conducting root-cause analysis for problems of varying levels of complexity. Can understand and explain business and technical concepts.
Understand technical information and communicate with others using user-friendly language
Demonstrate skills in leading meetings, delivering presentations, and using formal/informal networks to accomplish tasks and goals
Able to work across organizational boundaries to communicate effectively with those with differing opinions and levels of understanding
Respects diversity: shows respect for and looks for the opinion of others, trusts and values each person?s contributions to the team, maintains smooth, cooperative working relationships

This position is being made available with the ability for you to negotiate alternative work schedules and remote/on-site options to suit your work-life balance. Non-Michigan residents should inquire about potential employment while working remotely in a state other than Michigan.
