Lauridsen Group Inc. R&D Process Development Manager in Ankeny, Iowa

We are seeking an experienced and driven R&D Process Development Manager to lead our process development team. This key leadership role requires a candidate with a strong background in process development, team management, and cross-functional collaboration. The R&D Process Development Manager will directly oversee process development activities while collaborating closely with Quality and Operations teams to drive commercialization of new products.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Ph.D. or master’s degree in chemical engineering, materials science, biochemistry or related field required. Will consider candidates with relevant industry experience in lieu of Ph.D. or Master’s.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5+ years of experience in R&D process development, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.

  • Demonstrated expertise in process development, scaling R&D process, and improving product quality.

  • Excellent project management skills with experience managing complex R&D process development projects from bench to commercialization.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in a high-growth or rapidly evolving industry, such as biotechnology, in vitro diagnostics, pharmaceuticals, or advanced materials.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of R&D scientists, and research associates fostering a collaborative environment.

  • Guide team members’ career development and performance, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and project timelines.

  • Manage downstream process development activities from product requirements, design inputs and outputs, and timelines.

  • Oversee all aspects of R&D process development from bench to pilot to commercial tech transfer, ensuring adherence to project timelines, design requirements, and quality standards.

  • Develop and implement best practices, SOPs, and guidelines for the R&D team to enhance consistency and innovation.

  • Serve as the key liaison between R&D, Quality, and Operations, ensuring seamless integration of new processes and improvements.

  • Manage project timelines, resources, and budgets to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.

  • Monitor and report on R&D progress, key performance indicators (KPIs), and project outcomes to senior leadership.

  • Keep current with industry trends and advancements methodologies into R&D practices.

  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement of people and processes.

SKILLS:

  • Exceptional leadership and team management skills.

  • Proven ability to supervise, develop, and provide work direction to R&D team members.

  • Analytical and problem-solving abilities with a focus on process improvement.

  • Strong communication skills, able to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Proficient managing projects and reporting outcomes.

  • Skilled at driving outcomes of experimental designs to ensure forward progress.

  • Open to suggestions and embraces the ideas of other team members.

  • Effective organizational methods ensuring backwards planning and prioritization.
