Incumbent serves as Bookkeeper for Northeast Indiana Community Corrections Department, responsible for providing bookkeeping and accounting support to Department.
*DUTIES: Maintains records of financial transactions by establishing chart of accounts, postingtransactions, and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.Maintains general ledger including verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.Reconciles various accounts, including general ledger and subsidiary accounts. Preparesfinancial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends.Maintains historical records by filing documents.Complies with federal, state, and local legal requirements, including reviewing, enforcingadherence, filing reports, and advising management of changes.Processes timesheets and Department payroll and submitting as required.Processes, enters, and records claims, including documenting all violations and processing fornon-payment.Coordinates assessment of program participants.Records and updates current, inactive and closed defendants payments. Sends notification to the defendant regarding late payments and manages Civil Judgments for delinquent fees.Conducts drug screens and maintains records.CommCorr/Bkkpng.Performs financial duties, including maintaining cash drawer, collecting cash and credit card payments, issuing receipts, and depositing funds.Operates postage meter, delivering mail to post office, and receiving and distributing documentsas needed.Redirects anti-social attitudes and beliefs and affirms pro-social attitudes and beliefs.Attends staff meetings as required.Performs related duties as assigned. * I. JOB REQUIREMENTS AND DIFFICULTY OF WORK: High school diploma or HSE, college degree in accounting preferred.Ability to meet all hiring and retention requirements, including passage of a background check.Must not have prior felony arrests and/or convictions.Working knowledge of standard office policies and procedures with computer skills, includingword processing, spreadsheet, email, internet, and Department-specific software systems, andability to apply such knowledge to a variety of interrelated processes, tasks, and operations. Working knowledge of legal requirements and accepted policies and practices of Department,with ability to effectively provide administrative support to Department staff.Working knowledge of basic bookkeeping skills and ability to maintain Department records andreports, with ability to count, compute, and perform arithmetic calculations.Working knowledge of standard English grammar, spelling, and punctuation, and ability toprepare correspondence and reports.Working knowledge of standard filing systems and ability to create and maintain accurate andorganized files, and records, and mail materials.Ability to properly operate standard office equipment, including computer, calculator, scanner,printer, tape recorder, postage meter, and telephone.Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out written and oral instructions and presentfindings in oral or written form.Shall comply with all employer and Department policies and work rules, includi g, but notlimited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.CommCorr/Bkkpng.Ability to competently serve the public with diplomacy and respect, including occasionalencounters with hostile/violent persons.Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Department information andrecords according to State requirements.Ability to effectively listen, comprehend, and communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments, bank personnel, and the public, including being sensitive toprofessional ethics, gender, cultural diversities, and disabilities.Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment, workon several tasks at the same time, work rapidly for long periods, occasionally under timepressure and amidst frequent distractions and interruptions. * II. RESPONSIBILITY: Incumbent performs a variety of standard and recurring duties with priorities determined bysupervisor. Work is reviewed upon completion of specific duties for adherence to instructionsand guidelines. Errors in work are primarily detected or prevented through co-worker review.Undetected errors may result in loss of time to correct. * III. PERSONAL WORK RELATIONSHIPS: Incumbent maintains frequent communication with co-workers, other County departments, bankpersonnel, and the public, for the purpose of exchanging information and rendering service.Incumbent reports directly to Office Manager/Team Lead.
**IV. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Incumbent performs duties in a standard office environment and service counter, involvingsitting/walking at will, sitting for long periods, keyboarding, lifting/carrying objects weighingless than 25 pounds, close/far vision, handling/grasping/fingering objects, speaking clearly, andhearing sounds/communication. Incumbent may be exposed to violent/irate individuals.
