Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal employee.
These are a non-represented positions (no union affiliation) and are subject to the provisions of the Personnel Rules of the Municipality of Anchorage.
DEPARTMENT: Parks and Recreation
HOURS OF WORK: Monday through Friday; 8:15 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.
LOCATION: Municipal Greenhouse, 1320 Lidia Selkregg Lane
These are temporary, full time positions with an anticipated start date of May 28, 2024 and ending on August 1, 2024.
Example of Duties
Assist crew leaders in leading youth trail crew members between the ages of 16 and 19 in performing various park maintenance and trail projects. Engage in environmental education, park maintenance work, and outdoor recreation leadership opportunities in parks throughout the Anchorage area. Perform the duties of a youth crew member in maintaining, developing, and enhancing parks and recreation facilities. Assist the YEP Crew Leaders in team building among the YEP Crew Members, in ensuring their health and safety, and in guiding them through the Youth Employment in Parks program activities. Gain valuable job skills in the areas of management, leadership, supervision, youth development, park maintenance, and environmental conservation issues. Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, equivalent, or current high school student and between the ages of 16 and 19 with experience in office clerical work, customer service, problem solving, or working with others.
OR
High school diploma, GED, equivalent, or current high school student and between the ages of 16 and 19 with three (3) months of experience as a Public Service Student Aide I with the Municipality of Anchorage.
Applicant must be between the ages of 16 to 19
Preferences:
- Experience as a YEP Crew member.

Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
