Job Information
Open to the general public and any current Municipal Employee.
This position is represented by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547 (Technicians) and is subject to the provisions of the current agreement between the Municipality of Anchorage and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 1547 (Technicians).
DEPARTMENT: Public Transportation
HOURS OF WORK: Shifts vary; 40 hours per week within Monday through Sunday.
LOCATION: 3701 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Avenue
Example of Duties
Performs inspections, diagnosis, and/or troubleshoots to determine cause and solution required for a variety of commercial and light-duty vehicles; uses sound judgment to efficiently and safely accomplish complete scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and repairs of the entire power-train, interfaced electronic controls and systems, heating and ventilation systems, fare boxes, hydraulic system, braking, suspension, and major and minor overhauls critical to preserving the safety and/or integrity of Public Transportation Department (PTD) buses and other PTD vehicles and equipment. Ensures the quality and expediency of all work performed; responds to service calls in the field during all types of weather to repair and/or recover vehicles; utilizes MOA Maintenance Management Software (MMS) to document work performed and a wide variety of hand and power tools to accomplish tasks; must establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, supervisors, and others to promote a safe, clean, and harmonious work environment. Cleans and maintains shop work areas. Must maintain regular time and attendance standards. Performs other duties assigned.
Minimum Qualifications / Substitutions / Preferences
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and completion of an approved journeyman mechanic apprenticeship program and two (2) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.
OR
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent and three (3) years of automotive, construction equipment, transit bus, and truck maintenance and repair experience.

At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement and no restrictions.
At time of hire - Valid State of Alaska/OSHA Forklift Operators Card.

If selected for hire, the appointment in this position will be conditional based upon a satisfactory background check. A background check encompasses criminal history, verifying education, and verifying dates of employment.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the submission of a current copy of the applicant's State of Alaska Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with unrestricted Passenger endorsement with no restrictions. Also, required is the submission of a current copy (dated within 30 days from date requested) of his/her Department of Motor Vehicle driving record, including a driving record from previous states if the Alaska driver's license was first issued within one year prior to application, documenting an acceptable driving history. The processing fee(s) are the responsibility of the selected applicant.

As a condition of employment, the person selected for the position will be required to successfully complete a medical physical examination including full functional capacity evaluation with audiogram and also a drug screening prior to beginning work and will be subject to future periodic drug and alcohol tests on a random basis without advance notice.
If selected for hire, appointment in this position will be conditional based upon the satisfactory review and completion of the Previous Employer Alcohol & Drug Test Information Forms. Names, addresses, and phone numbers for positions that required Department of Transportation testing for the last two years will be required in compliance with § 40.25 and § 382.405(f) and (h).
All required certifications and licenses must remain current for the duration of employment.
Military Service Interview Preference:
Veterans or who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach to the application a copy of their DD Form 214, DD Form 256, NGB Form 22, or a letter from the US Department of Veterans Affairs recognizing the person as a veteran. The attached documentation must show an honorable discharge or general (under honorable conditions) discharge. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
Individuals currently serving as a member in good standing in the National Guard or the organized military reserves who wish to be considered for interview preference as permitted in Municipal Personnel Rules 3.30.031 D must attach proof of current service to the application. Proof of current service can be shown by submission of a statement of service which, at a minimum, shows full name, date of birth, Social Security Number, date service began, branch of service, rank, name of command providing the information, and unit of assignment. The statement of service must be on a form or letterhead of the individual’s command organization and show the name, signature, title and contact information for the signer providing the statement of service. The minimum qualifications of the position must be met for preference consideration.
