Excelsior Orthopaedics Group Scribe Team Lead in Amherst, New York

Summary

Work closely with Scribe Supervisor to oversee team of scribes providing services to physicians. The primary goal is to increase the efficiency and the productivity of the physician team. Work closely with physician and/or physician assistant or nurse practitioner to perform administrative tasks such as EMR documentation, chart preparation, schedule efficiency, and identify overall best practices for process improvement. Role requires anticipation of physician needs, discretion, tactfulness, and modest in performance of duties so as not to distract medical staff from patient care. Good judgment, organizational ability, initiative, attention to detail, and the ability to be self-motivated are critical to the success of the position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage team of scribes providing services to physicians on-site and remotely

  • Ensure documentation is accurate, complete, and consistent with legal, ethical, and practice protocols and standards; audit progress notes, chart prep, and other documentations as required

  • Provide team communications to ensure processes are standardized

  • Identify best practices and implement processes and procedures that are efficient and effective throughout the organization

  • Use influence and experience in collaborating with other departments to identify workflows that services the providers in a cost effective and efficient manner

  • Develop and continuously improve the scribe onboarding, training, cross-training, and performance management processes; ensure team is informed of changes and executed appropriately

  • Ensure maximum utilization of scribe team when provider(s) not requiring support

  • Work close with the Billing Department to stay current with billing and coding changes

  • Work closely with Human Resources to interview, select, train, and assign a new scribe to a physician/provider

  • Work closely with multiple departments/parties to coordinate schedule availability to ensure balance of office and surgery time scheduled

  • Work closely with physician assistant and may be required to providing scribing support as needed

  • Handle miscellaneous administrative tasks as needed to support scribes; this may include preparing referral letters, mailing/faxing/scanning confidential documents regarding a patients care and with all pertinent reports or tests attached as well as research a variety of information as needed for referring physicians, referrals, preparation of operative reports, make phone calls, and other clerical tasks as assigned

  • Handle additional duties as required

Qualifications

Job Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree preferred; equivalent combination of education and work experience will be considered

  • Minimum 2 years scribing or medical office experience preferred

  • Medent/EMR experience preferred

  • High School Diploma/GED required

    Physical Demands

  • Position requires manual and finger dexterity and hand-eye coordination

  • Involves standing, sitting, and walking

  • Team member will occasionally be asked to lift and carry items weighing up to 10 pounds; normal visual acuity and hearing are required
