Performs advanced and specialized drafting, calculations and design work; performs field work; uses automated systems; learns specialized techniques. Design activity is overseen by a licensed professional engineer or registered architect who has final approval authority for projects. Employees at this level perform work independently on assignments; however, all unusual issues are referred to the supervisor.Essential Duties: Assists in writing general notes, specifications and provisions.Attends specialized design schools.Learns specialized design and project development techniques.Performs advanced and specialized design work.Performs advanced and specialized drafting and calculations in support of design activities; develops graphic presentations that include distinctive design features.Prepares quantity summaries, hydraulic and utility studies and right-of-way maps.Prepares roadway design, traffic control, lighting, signal, and building plans.Reviews entire sets of plans for format, drafting and calculation errors and correlation of plans and specifications.Reviews work done by others for drafting and calculation errors.Uses additional automated design tools or specialized design procedures in areas including bridge/culvert detailing, traffic management, geometric design, signal lighting design, retaining walls and building design.Performs other job responsibilities as assigned.
