JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

The Residence Life Office is looking for a dynamic and energetic individual to join the team. The Assistant Coordinator is responsible to an Assistant Director for assisting with the supervision and administration of the Residence Life program serving approximately 900 residential students. This is a live-in position and responsibilities include supervising, counseling, conflict resolution, program development, fostering community, promoting an academic connection, facilities management, and the administration of the University conduct process. The Assistant Coordinator will serve as part of the on-call duty rotation and assist in departmental initiatives including RA recruitment, selection, and training.

This job requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid US driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.

Residence Life Responsibilities

Administrative:

  • Work with members of the Residence Life team to design, facilitate and evaluate staff meetings, workshops, and in-service training sessions.

  • Attend and participate in standing Residence Life, Student Affairs Division, and campus-wide meetings as scheduled.

  • Meet regularly with supervisor.

    Supervising/Development:

  • Provide direction to 6 – 12 Resident Assistants in on-going community and academic development, as needed

  • Assume an active and visible role in the on-going developmental process of individual residents to support their maximum academic success.

  • Interprets and enforces University and residence hall policies and procedures

  • Mediate conflict between and among students

  • Promote community development and pride.

Programming:

  • Assist with the planning, implementation, and evaluation of a residence education program for the campus

  • Develop, plan, and implement monthly programming within the residence halls

  • work alongside Campus Partners to enhance programmatic and educational offerings on campus

  • Assists Resident Assistants in developing and promoting a positive living environment

  • Responsible for various department projects such as monthly fire drills, weekly emails, and RA Appreciation

    Operations/Personnel:

  • Open and close area(s) at the start and end of each semester and at breaks, as needed

  • Monitor cleanliness of the building(s) and work closely with Housing and Food Services to address issues as appropriate.

  • Participate in the recruitment, selection, training, and evaluation of student staff.

  • Contribute to the professional and personal development of Residence Life staff.

  • Serve as part of the on-call duty rotation.

Other Duties:

  • Assume other duties as mutually assigned upon by supervisor.

Hours

This is a 20-hour a week position. The position will require additional hours based on operational needs throughout the year due to campus-wide events, department operations, and duty responsibilities. While most hours will be spent in the office, others will occur during evenings and weekends.

Compensation/Benefits

Furnished one bedroom apartment that includes full size kitchen and bath. Also includes a department-issued laptop and paid laundry card, as washer/dryer is accessible but not in apartment. A meal plan, parking pass and an hourly base rate of $21 paid bi-weekly.

Typically requires a Bachelor's degree. Should possess thorough understanding of the role and purpose of residence hall living as it applies to student development.
