Performs meter reading, meter changes, and service work. * Distribution Duties* • Install hydrants, valves, meters, or meter settings. • Install or replace service saddles or service lines from main to meter setting. • Able to make service or main hot taps using tapping equipment. • Able to locate service lines or mains. • Able to cut, thread and attach sections of pipe or install repair sleeves as needed. • Able to operate dump trucks, vac trucks, excavators, trailers or other equipment. • Able to load dump trucks with crushed stone, cold-mix asphalt or dirt. • Able to maneuver pipe sections, road plates or other company assets into position. • Able to manually dig a ditch preparatory to company assets being installed. • Repair and lubricate machines and equipment. • Operates valves to stop or restore service. • Record and document maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections in the company's system of record. • Work collaboratively with other departments, including water quality, customer service, and engineering. • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge of industry standards, best practices, and technology. • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to water systems. • Provide customers with high-quality service and address their concerns in a professional manner. • Respond to service calls and emergency situations and able to diagnose and repair system issues promptly. • Setting of barricades, traffic cones, and safety lights at the worksite for worker protection. • General use of hand and power tools. • Flagging traffic as needed. • Operate company vehicles and equipment in a safe and responsible manner. • Inspect company vehicles, equipment and supplies such as tires, lights, brakes, fuel, oil and antifreeze for safe operation each day. • Perform general maintenance work on Company property and grounds. • Additional duties may be assigned by management. * Metering Duties (as Needed)* • Perform installation, replacement, testing, reading and calibration of water meters and endpoints. • Performs routine leak inspections, collect water samples and tests to determine basic water quality parameters. _ Key Accountabilities_ To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Broad working knowledge of distribution system components, including their installation, such as valves, hydrants, tapping devices, meters and various types of pipe materials. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before the customers of the organization. Perform all functions of the position in a safe and conscientious manner, with constant regard for the safety of fellow employees, the public, and environment. _ Other_ Requires joining Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 553 after completing the 90-day probation period. * Work Hours: The regular hours of work each day will be consecutive except that they may be interrupted by a half-hour lunch period. Work hours for the position are 7:00 am to 3:30 pm Monday through Friday. This position will be included in and required to perform on call duties as described in the current Plumbers and Pipefitters Local Union 553 agreement. Emergencies and extenuating circumstances may require temporary schedule changes. * Certification: Valid Driver’s license and the ability to obtain and maintain Class A CDL an applicable endorsement along with DOT Medical Card within 6 months of hire or transfer.
