Your Opportunity

As the State Strategic Transportation Development Leader, you will leverage your Tennessee experience to grow our Transportation practice and manage the design and delivery of large projects.

You will play a pivotal role in expanding our existing client and project base and in efforts to position the firm to acquire new business in the Transportation market. In addition to Business Development in the Tennessee Transportation market, you will have responsibility to pursue and manage projects in various phases from conceptual planning, through design, construction, and completion.

You will help develop a growth plan for the Transportation sector in Tennessee, including growing our transportation staff and presence, and coordinate with other Business Development Mangers in the Region to continue to foster a collaborative work environment and help deliver the strategic growth plan for our clients.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Identify where applicable funding opportunities exist and research key industries and opportunities.

  • Determine client perception of Stantec Transportation strengths and weaknesses.

  • Identify key clients to grow the business in a specific region and/or business line (typically outside the key account program).

  • Develop and maintain key relationships between Stantec, strategic partners, and clients related to expanding business opportunities.

  • Partner with leadership on business plan research, development, and execution.

  • Identify project opportunities with target clients. Develop and/or assist in defining overall team project pursuit plan win strategy.

  • Planning, organizing, and supervising the work of other transportation professionals.

  • Resource management, recruitment, career development, succession planning, coaching, and mentoring.

  • Effectively negotiate, plan, monitor, and deliver quality projects and consulting services.

  • Reviewing engineered designs and plans for conformance with applicable state, regional & local agency standards.

  • Meet and build relationships with targeted clients with the objective of introducing Stantec and increasing our exposure for that specific program and project pursuit and related ones. Attend targeted client meetings.

  • Consult on M&BD budget and identify external opportunities for industry engagement and visibility.

  • Contribute to the organic net revenue growth goal for the assigned region/business line in collaboration with business leadership.

  • Apply in-depth industry knowledge to help Stantec develop strong value propositions that clearly differentiate us from our competition.

  • Identify opportunities for innovation and advanced technology to expand our service offerings.

  • Collaborate on potential projects in other practice areas. In essence when opportunities present themselves within the Transportation client portfolio - use knowledge of Stantec and our expertise to cross-sell services across business lines and offices.

Business Development

  • Leads BD calls with key personnel – assumes 1 meeting per month

  • Identify key clients in Tennessee and understand client needs, environment, and opportunities.

  • Identify project leads and support Pipeline entries, marketing support and scheduling of resources based on RFP releases.

  • Track and attend relevant conferences and ensure we have opportunity to connect with key clients or teaming partners on identified pursuits.

  • Make connections with other Stantec BCs to enhance our capabilities and client engagements (i.e. Urban Mobility, Gen AV, Communication HQ, Green ITS, Envision, Digital Delivery, Resiliency, etc.)

  • Develop and/or assist in defining overall team project pursuit plan win strategy.

  • Identify where applicable funding opportunities exist and research key industries and opportunities.

  • Identify and maintain industry related memberships

Proposal Development

  • Partnering with the technical and marketing staff for pursuit strategy (weave in other niche disciplines and groups as appropriate).

  • Help develop key differentiators to create winning proposals

  • Understand key issues of a project and client needs and work with project team to develop content

  • Collaborating with the marketing team to ensure graphics target win themes / technical issues

  • Develop and/or review proposals that address win themes, project requirements, etc.

Support Growth, Acquiring and Retaining Talent

  • Support and drive conversations on growth strategy

  • Attend events that connect Stantec to potential hires

  • Engage in overall BC budget management

  • Build team of local technical professionals to deliver projects

  • Identify regional expertise to assist with project delivery

Qualifications

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • A wide-ranging experience with Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) projects as well as Transportation projects for municipal and county clients in Tennessee.

  • Experienced in developing, negotiating, and managing scopes, schedules, and budgets.

  • Proven business development and marketing experience in Tennessee.

  • Ability to lead, motivate, mentor, and develop a team of technical and professional staff.

  • Understands and applies key business knowledge through research of capital improvement plans, funding mechanisms, strategic direction, and client needs.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to small and large groups with expertise.

  • Ability to resolve complex problems using effective and creative approaches.

  • Exercises independent judgement, takes initiative, and expertly prioritizes activities to drive programs to success.

  • Possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field

Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in business development, project management and/or engineering

Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensed in the State of Tennessee (or ability to obtain within 6 months) preferred

The position will primarily work in an office setting. Some travel may be required, such as to visit clients, deliver plans or documents to reviewing agencies or clients, or to attend meetings. May also occasionally visit study areas, construction sites and/or be exposed to outside elements and inclement weather conditions.
