The Senior Project Manager – Civil/Structural position supports the cement business units in the development, authorization process, & execution of civil/structural engineering projects. It provides expert technical support in civil/structural engineering on cement plants, grinding plants, & terminals. This position is based in Allentown, PA.

What You’ll Get to Do:

  • Manage Projects and Subprojects Project sizes vary between $ 0.2 to $50 million. Manage civil/structural projects from inception to completion. Provide technical expertise in civil engineering to cement plant projects. Develop & evaluate various technical solutions, and civil/structural project plans to meet project & long-term business needs. Present to & obtain approvals from Steering Committees. With the project controller, develop accurate project cost estimates, and time schedules for investment scenarios. Assess & obtain necessary resources, internal & external. Manage multi-discipline project teams. Evaluate progress & provide reports to Steering Committees. Lead the structural audit program for NAM facilities including management of consulting engineer(s); review audit findings & propose solutions based on technical merits & practicality; determine urgency for repairs; & assist Operations with implementation of solutions.

  • Design &Engineer Cement Plant Systems As the internal technical civil/structural engineering expert, develop all civil & structural designs considering time, cost, durability, & constructability requirements. Oversee & direct internal designers’ work & obtain & review outsourced engineering work. Review structural drawings & make improvement suggestions. Propose final design concept & obtain approval. Develop civil/structural quantities, & construction sketches to help prepare cost estimates.

  • Procurement Prepare civil, concrete, structural steel, & equipment specifications for bidding. Evaluate & recommend consultants & contractors to provide bids based on market evaluation & known performance. Prepare bid comparisons & recommendations. Lead the technical part in contract negotiations. Monitor vendor performance. Ensure quality of design, structural steel, & equipment supply.

  • Construction Prepare specifications for the construction bid package. Prepare bid comparisons & recommendations for purchase. Negotiate contracts with purchasing; lead the technical part in contract negotiations. Direct & control contractor’s activity & performance on site. Negotiate & approve/reject contractor claims. Review supplier shop drawings. Visit plants for progress evaluation & issue resolution. Coordinate construction activities between disciplines. Organize construction supervision to ensure the quality of construction work. Ensure all plant & safety regulations are followed. Prepare contract close-out documents.

  • Start-Up Organize inspections for foundations, structures, & equipment. Assign roles & responsibilities. Obtain plant personnel through negotiation with the Plant Manager. Organize training of plant personnel with vendors, contractors, & plant management. Monitor performance concerning contract documents. Drive the deficiency elimination process through a punch list with the plant, vendors, & contractors. Note unattended deficiencies to vendors/contractors & follow up with correct legal procedures.

  • Documentation Manage & archive drawings & documents throughout the project. Responsible for documentation & as-built drawings assimilation into the Company systems.

  • Common Services & Plant Support Assess & guide all Company cement plants relating to the durability of existing building structures & existing infrastructure. Develop long-range planning for the maintenance & improvement of building structures & infrastructures. Evaluate damages on building structures & propose cost & time-effective repair methods. Examine structural problems involving failure or serviceability & make recommendations. In partnership with CCC & Plant Management, prepare short & long-term plans to optimize lifespans for structures & plan repairs/improvements.

Who We Are Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil/structural Engineering.

  • Minimum 10 years of relevant professional experience on a senior level of industrial civil/structural engineering & construction. P.E.License preferred.

  • A Minimum of 5 years experience in project management for large-scale projects. Excellent knowledge & experience in design, concrete, structural steel, & silo construction of heavy industrial plants like cement plants, mining plants, etc.

  • Experience working in one or more of the software such as Tekla, Revit, & Staad.

  • Able to understand & interpret geotechnical reports.

  • Solid business software skills, particularly MS Office, and in the preparation of reports & presentations.

  • Prior experience in managing & directing and claim management of the contractors.

  • Good experience in budgeting & cost estimating of civil/structural projects with budgets up to $ 50 million. Solid understanding of business financials including forecasting, budgeting, etc.

  • Solid organizational skills to coordinate & integrate the sub-functions of the project team for the entire project. Understand, influence, empathize, & communicate with people to achieve the project goals. Strong communication in English, both, oral & written.

  • Initiative & ability to solve problems in a broad approach. These situations require analytical, interpretative, & constructive thinking & a significant degree of evaluation.

  • Ability & willingness to travel to the cement plants, grinding plants, terminals, & external offices, as well as consultants’ offices & suppliers' fabrication shops.

  • Prior experience coordinating with purchasing functions.

Work Environment

  • The role operates primarily in an office setting but will also operate in a manufacturing environment with moving mechanical equipment, inclement weather, heat, humidity, elevated noise levels, & dusty conditions as dictated by project requirements.

  • Must be able to occasionally climb stairs, walk on uneven surfaces, & enter confined spaces.
