Air Products seeks an Advanced Control Manager who is accountable for the development, support, and implementation of value-added advanced controls applications across the operating sites in the Americas region.

This position may be based at our Global Corporate Headquarters in Allentown, PA or at our Houston, TX facility.

You will lead a team of engineers who execute this mission for our Hydrogen/CO/Syngas (HyCO), Air Separation (ASU), Liquid Hydrogen and Ammonia facilities in the region. These applications perform on-line optimization of our operating units and are implemented using a combination of regulatory and Model Predictive Control techniques.

Required Skills / Abilities:

A track record of effective communication across an organization and influencing stakeholders over multiple organizations.

Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external organizations to maintain an effective Advanced Control effort at Air Products.

Desire to develop and motivate a team of Advanced Control engineers.

Develop, track and report on Advanced Control applications KPIs to sustain efficient, reliable plant performance.

Key Job Responsibilities:

Provide leadership vision and strategic guidance for Advanced Controls in the Americas Operations organization.

Adhere to Our Way of Leading (OWL) framework to ensure clear team objectives and people development. Foster an OWL culture to provide the team a pathway to accomplishment and success.

Ensure proper training of, and professional development for, all team members so that they can address the Advanced Controls mission for the region.

Develop and maintain Advanced Control work processes and procedures to ensure consistent implementation success and efficient deployments.

Lead an interdisciplinary effort to identify, prioritize, resource, and track Advanced Control projects to improve business profitability and support the corporate growth strategy.

Build and maintain the Advanced Control infrastructure to facilitate application development, controller support, and performance monitoring activities.

Collaborate with internal and external organizations to integrate Advanced Control applications into the Air Products infrastructure and stay abreast of technology developments.

Support the global Advanced Control Operations Excellence team to develop and deploy standard practices.

Minimum Hiring Requirements:

Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering or closely related field.

15+ years of Process Engineering, Operations Process Engineering and/or Advanced Process Controls/Process Controls experience.

Approximately 25% Travel to Operating Facilities primarily in North America.

Preferred Hiring Requirements: (Preferred but not required.)

Technical support experience of industrial gases technologies (HYCO, Air Separation) or operations.

Leadership of an engineering team, preferably in operations environment.

Experience developing and implementing plant optimization and unit performance improvements.

Experience building and deploying Advanced Control applications; also familiarity with use of Matlab and Simulink to develop and test control strategies.

Experience using commercially available steady state flowsheet simulation and process modeling software.
