THE POSITION

Douglas County Senior Services

Benefited full time position / 40 hours per week, includes excellent full-family benefit package, OPSRP/PERS retirement and availability of deferred compensation retirement savings.

Onsite (Courthouse complex) childcare available at a discounted employee rate through Roseburg Professional Childcare (Fowler St. location only). Availability is subject to center waitlist.Job Summary:

This classification performs duties in the planning, coordinating and scheduling, conducting and participating in activities and services for senior citizens such as nutrition, transportation, health, education, recreation and socialization. Coordinators provide information and assistance to senior citizens regarding health and social services and benefits; help secure assistance or refer senior citizen to appropriate agency; identify, assess and monitor needs of senior citizens such as home delivered meals; manage a multi-purpose senior center including maintenance and building safety; direct the work of, recruit, orient, train and assist employees and volunteer staff in activities and services; plan and coordinate education and health promotion activities.

  • Plan, schedule, coordinate, conduct and participate in providing nutrition, transportation, health, education, recreation and socialization activities for senior citizens; plan and coordinate education and health promotion activities.

  • Recruit, direct the work of, orient, train and assist employees and volunteer staff; serve as a volunteer station coordinator in coordination with volunteer services staff; assist in placing and monitoring senior companions with clients.

  • Manage senior center/dining site; order meals and kitchen supplies from food service contractor; direct employees and volunteers in setting up dining site for meals, serving meals, cleanup of dining site and sanitation of kitchen; coordinate with building representative regarding maintenance and safety of building.

  • Sensitize the community of opportunities and benefits to senior citizens and elicit community support of the programs/activities.

  • Serve as staff representative to various advisory councils, committees and groups involved in senior citizen programs of the county such as RSVP, UCAN, SCP, AARP, etc.

  • Identify and assess needs of senior citizens; provide information of community health, social services and public benefit programs for senior citizens; help secure assistance or refer senior citizen to appropriate agency; develop, coordinate and monitor client care plan; conduct home visits.

  • Assess eligibility of clients receiving home delivered meals; coordinate client transportation for trips such as grocery shopping and medical appointments and meals delivery with department's special transportation dispatcher.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

Skills/Qualifications:

  • Two years experience in health, recreation or social service program

Desirable qualifications:

Basic knowledge in the fields of social services and community health.

  • At time of appointment, must possess valid Oregon drivers license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is performed in an office environment, multi-purpose senior center and in the field. Work is generally sedentary; however, may require bending, hearing voice conversations, kneeling, lifting up to 34 pounds, pulling, pushing, reaching and walking. A reasonable amount of driving is required.

Position requires driving. Finalist will be required to provide a driving history that meets the Douglas County Driver Policy (http://www.co.douglas.or.us/hr/risk/safety/driving.asp) as part of contingent offer of employment

SCREENING & EVALUATION

Background Investigation: While not part of initial applicant screening, the finalist for this position may be required to pass a criminal history background check as part of a contingent offer of employment. Conviction of a crime may not necessarily disqualify an individual from employment.

Physical Examination / Drug Screen: Employment is contingent upon a pre-employment drug screen. Presence of non-prescribed drugs, including marijuana, on drug screen results will result in disqualification pursuant to the County's drug and alcohol policy. To determine if physically qualified to perform essential functions, employment offer is conditional upon satisfactory results of a post-offer medical and hearing exam conducted at county expense.
