The Senior Specialist, Engagement and Philanthropy’s primary focus is to serve as a special liaison to SHRM Chapters and Councils. The role will determine and implement best practices in assisting Chapters and Councils in their fundraising activities. The Senior Specialist will contribute to the overall success of attaining SHRM Foundation’s revenue goals, leading Engagement and Philanthropy’s administrative functions and collaborating with SHRM Foundation team members to execute critical events and activities that engage donors and other development stakeholders.

The Senior Specialist will provide relationship management support and assistance to ensure timely responses to inquiries from Chapters and Councils and other internal and external partners. The Senior Specialist will ensure the optimization of SHRM Foundation’s processes, systems, and infrastructure in order to successfully update and maintain various systems (NetSuite, Giving Reports, Batch Reports, Salesforce (to be implemented), etc.) to aid in tracking project deadlines, communications with SHRM and SHRM Foundation staff, chapters and councils, partners and donors and develop a manual of these processes and systems for the Engagement and Philanthropy department. The Senior Specialist also assists in prospect research and building a repository of potential donors for key programs and support activities associated with proposal development, grant management and reporting.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage relationship with Chapters and State Councils: Coordinate solicitation, stewardship and communication strategies with donors and prospective donors through multiple channels, while cultivating and stewarding donor relationships and managing the solicitation process and fulfilling commitments to scholarship sponsors. Work collaboratively with SHRM Field Services Directors and all other relevant departments within the SHRM Foundation and SHRM.

  • Coordinate the continuum for donor stewardship, prompting personal outreach and other special stewardship programs and recognition as determined by giving levels and donor interest.

  • Database, reporting and tracking: Lead database management system(s), working with internal and external sources as needed to deliver exceptional data for fundraising activities. Implement and manage protocol for individual donor gift entry process, establish and manage appropriate, sustainable, and valued systems for communication purposes.

  • Spearhead development administrative functions - serve as a liaison to finance and accounting and other relevant departments in managing acknowledgement processes, tracking payments and invoices, and preparing contracts; along with relevant processes for government outreach surrounding grant opportunities.

  • Events: collaborate with SHRM Foundation program team to manage special events, working with internal departments to execute plans, determine strategic return on investment for events, execute solicitation and stewardship plan for event sponsors.

  • Other duties and projects as assigned.

Education & Experience Requirements

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing or related field; or equivalent relevant experience

Experience

Required

  • At least 5 year of experience with non-profit fundraising, possessing skills related to donor solicitation, relationship and stewardship management and systems/database management.

Preferred

  • Previous association or foundation management experience, communications/marketing and programmatic and event logistics management.

Certifications

  • None required, prefer continued professional development in program development and management of effectiveness.

Physical Requirements

Work environment

  • Work is regularly performed in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.

  • Travel 20-30% of the time.

The hiring range for this position is $75,000 to $96,000 per year. This range is an estimate and the actual salary may vary based on the candidate's experience, skills, and qualifications. SHRM offers a competitive and comprehensive total rewards package.
