Aston Carter Senior Payroll Specialist in Alexandria, Virginia

Payroll Specialist needed in Alexandria, VA! This is a 5 days a week on site role! This is an URGENT need and will move quickly!

Job Description

Seeking a Payroll Specialist to oversee all payroll functions, ensuring compliance with local regulations in a multi-state US environment. This role involves managing payroll processing, tax filings, and benefits while leading the team to focus on accuracy and efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee payroll domestically across twenty states to ensure timely processing, accuracy of wages, deductions, and compliance with local regulations.

  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and year-end reports for management.

  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local wage and hour laws.

  • Oversee timekeeping for enterprise-wide workforce.

  • Identify and implement improvements to streamline payroll processes.

  • Oversee NY Disability, manage Family Leave, garnishments, and other tax notices.

  • Administer benefits programs, including ACA filing and HSA deposits.

  • Maintain the employee portal, billing, and enrollment changes for benefits programs.

  • Optimize HRIS (Paychex) for payroll and ensure employee data accuracy.

  • Collaborate with international teams to process payroll and ensure compliance with local payroll regulations.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing.

  • Experience with high volume payroll - 500+ employees, multi-state, and international.

  • Proficiency in HRIS systems.

  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of general employment and payroll law.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Excel, Word, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

  • 2-4 years of HR and multi-state payroll experience; international experience is a plus.
