Applied Research Associates, Inc. Operations Research Analyst in Alexandria, Virginia

Description

The Capital Area Division (CAD) of Applied Research Associates (ARA), Inc. is seeking an Operations Research Analyst professional with a background in data/statistical analysis, Operation Research, or Department of Homeland Security analysis for our Capital Area Division (CAD). The successful candidate will support a variety of operational analyses for DHS S&T and DHS Components, using a combination of modeling and simulation, data science, and visualization tools to provide decision-ready results to project sponsors.

Applicants for this position will support a variety of requirements and analysis projects for a range of government sponsors. Successful candidates will be expected to exercise considerable originality to define problems, visualize approaches, coordinate technical guidance, and apply and extend new methods requiring innovative statistical analysis or operations research approaches. Candidates will coordinate completed studies and analyses with the Science and Technology Directorate at DHS Headquarters, Component’s staffs and its identified stakeholders such as technical SMEs from FFRDCs, contractors, national laboratories, universities, and interagency partners in performing complex, highly specialized analyses (systems analysis, requirements analysis, gap analysis, operations analysis, and systems engineering) that will inform DHS enterprise-wide investment decisions.

Selected applicant will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree with 0+ years of relevant work experience or Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of relevant work experience

  • Experience with statistical analysis and programming using languages like R, Python, SQL, or SAS

  • Experience providing authoritative and defensible analyses, assessments, and recommendations supporting senior leadership decisions

  • Eagerness to learn new tools and techniques

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Experience with Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, SharePoint)

  • Able to obtain and maintain DHS Suitability

  • US Citizenship

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working with DHS, its Components, or similar organizations and coordinating across multiple levels of organizations, including senior leadership

  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Qlik, or PowerBI

  • Experience with modeling and simulation and familiarity with tools like NetLogo, Arena, ExtendSim, JaamSim, VenSim

  • Experience with implementation of CIPSEA requirements

  • Active DHS Suitability
