Title: Behavioral Health Provider / Psychologist

Location: Alexandria Staging Facility, 96 George Thompson Road, Alexandria, LA 71303

Position Type: 1099 position, 20-40 hours per week, OT available. Minimal On Call may be available if interested. Nights and Weekend differentials are available. 1099 position.

Summary:

Vighter is currently seeking candidates for a Behavioral Health Provider - Psychologist. This position is at the Alexandria, LA Staging Facility

The Psychologist provides mental health services including psychological assessments, diagnosis, treatment, and therapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups. The role involves using a variety of therapeutic techniques to help clients manage and overcome mental health challenges, behavioral issues, and emotional difficulties. The Psychologist works collaboratively with other healthcare professionals to develop comprehensive treatment plans and improve patient outcomes.

Focus: Psychologists primarily provide psychotherapy (talk therapy) to help patients manage and overcome mental health issues. They use various therapeutic approaches, such as cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and humanistic therapy.

Assessments: Psychologists are trained to administer and interpret psychological tests, such as IQ tests, personality assessments, and neuropsychological evaluations.

Medication: Psychologists are generally not authorized to prescribe medication, except in a few states where they can obtain special certification to do so.

All personnel must conduct a site visit before being accepted by the facility.

    Key Responsibilities:

    Patient Evaluation and Diagnosis:

    • Conduct comprehensive psychological assessments, including interviews, observations, and testing.

    • Diagnose mental health disorders and behavioral issues based on assessment findings and criteria outlined in DSM-5 (or other relevant classification systems).

    • Develop individualized treatment plans based on diagnostic information and client goals.

    Therapy and Counseling:

    • Provide evidence-based therapy, including cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), psychodynamic therapy, and other relevant therapeutic approaches.

    • Offer individual, group, couples, and family counseling to address a wide range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship difficulties.

    • Monitor client progress and adjust treatment plans as necessary.

    Crisis Intervention:

    • Provide immediate support and intervention for clients experiencing acute psychological crises.

    • Develop and implement safety plans for clients at risk of harm to themselves or others.

    • Collaborate with emergency services when necessary to ensure client safety.

    Collaboration and Consultation:

    • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team, collaborating with psychologists, social workers, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to provide comprehensive care.

    • Consult with primary care physicians, specialists, and other medical professionals regarding the psychiatric aspects of patient care.

    • Participate in case conferences, team meetings, and treatment planning sessions.

    Documentation and Compliance:

    • Maintain detailed and accurate patient records, including psychiatric evaluations, treatment plans, progress notes, and medication management.

    • Ensure compliance with all relevant legal, ethical, and regulatory standards, including patient confidentiality and informed consent.

    • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and adhere to best practices in psychiatric care.

    Patient Education and Advocacy:

    • Educate patients and their families about mental health conditions, treatment options, and medication management.

    • Advocate for patients’ mental health needs within the healthcare system and the community.

    • Provide guidance on lifestyle modifications, coping strategies, and preventive measures to support mental health and well-being.

    Research and Continuing Education:

    • Stay current with advancements in psychiatric research, treatment modalities, and emerging therapies.

    • Participate in continuing education and professional development activities to maintain licensure and board certification.

    • Engage in clinical research and contribute to the field of psychiatry as appropriate.

    • Educate clients, families, and the community about mental health issues and preventive care.

    Qualifications:

    Education:

    • Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology from an accredited institution, with one year of experience and with certification by: a. The National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA); and, b. Permanent certification by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG). • Current state licensure as a Psychologist. • Additional certifications or specializations (e.g., clinical psychology, forensic psychology) are a plus.

    Licensure/Certification:

    • Board certification in Psychiatry from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) or equivalent. • Current and valid medical license to practice in Louisiana.

    Experience:

    • Proven experience in diagnosing and treating a wide range of mental health conditions. • Experience in both outpatient and inpatient psychiatric care settings is preferred.

    Skills:

    • Strong diagnostic and clinical decision-making skills. • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and therapeutic skills. • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team environment. • Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems and clinical documentation.

    Other Requirements:

    • Commitment to providing compassionate, patient-centered care. • Flexibility to work with diverse patient populations, including children, adolescents, adults, and the elderly. • Willingness to participate in on-call rotations and provide emergency psychiatric services as needed. • Bilingual in English and Spanish, preferred.
