What Your Job Will Be Like:

Organization 10511, Accounting Services, is actively seeking an Accounting-Cost Analyst to serve as the Payroll Tax Compliance Lead, bringing extensive experience in Payroll and Payroll Tax.

The chosen candidate will take the lead in managing Sandia's Payroll Tax Compliance function. This role is vital for ensuring that Sandia adheres to payroll tax regulations by guaranteeing timely and accurate tax filings and the proper remittance of deductions and taxes.

Responsibilities include accurately reporting Forms W-2 and IRS Form 941 for over 16,000 employees, overseeing state income tax withholding and unemployment filings across the country, and ensuring compliance and accuracy in all payroll tax-related activities.

The position requires the development and enhancement of processes, controls, and visibility of deliverables within Controller Operations, leveraging knowledge and experience to reduce manual efforts through technological efficiencies.

On any given day, you may be called upon to:

  • Oversee the accurate reporting of Forms W-2 and IRS Form 941.

  • Manage state income tax withholding and unemployment filings for employees in multiple states.

  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to gather and analyze tax data.

  • Prepare and file corporate federal Form 1065 and various state tax returns.

  • Ensure compliance with all tax-related regulations and guidelines.

  • Conduct regular audits of payroll tax processes to identify and correct discrepancies.

  • Stay informed about changes in tax laws and regulations that may affect payroll operations.

  • Provide training and support to team members regarding payroll tax compliance issues.

  • Act as the primary contact for all payroll tax inquiries.

  • Demonstrate leadership within a financial organization, overseeing a major functional financial area, including compliance, policy implementation, and risk management.

  • Possess extensive knowledge and experience in interpreting and applying Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS) to business and accounting practices, with a strong focus on payroll tax regulations and compliance requirements.

Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite 50% of the time.

Salary Range:

$81,900 - $157,500

*Salary range is estimated, and actual salary will be determined after consideration of the selected candidate's experience and qualifications, and application of any approved geographic salary differential.

Qualifications We Require:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a relevant discipline, plus 5 or more years of directly related experience, or equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.

  • Proficiency in payroll software and Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DOE L-level security clearance.

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Master’s degree, plus 3 years related experience; or equivalent experience and/or achievements that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of the job.

  • Experience in payroll tax compliance or a similar role.

  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local payroll tax regulations.

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • American Payroll Association Certified Payroll Professional Designation

  • Demonstrated ability to work in fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple deliverables with competing deadline and priorities.

  • Knowledge of Sandia Policies, Benefits, and Prime Contract requirements.

About Our Team:

Department 10511 is responsible for financial closings, financial accounting, external reporting of financial results, financial training, oversight and monitoring of financial operations, and management of the financial stewardship program. The Department also supervises corporate taxes, financial accounting analyses, and reconciliations.

Posting Duration:
