Satellite Assembly Integration and Test Engineer

KBR is searching for a for a satellite assembly integration and test (AI&T) engineer to support development of first-of-kind space vehicles and missions. Responsibilities will include oversight of various contractor I&T activities, identifying and resolving technical issues and influencing contractor efforts to successfully deliver satellites for on orbit operations. Additionally, the candidate will oversee and advise government program management on integration across full spectrum of interfaces, to include coordination with multiple mission partners. A successful candidate should be a leader and problem solver with a proven ability to deliver superior results as part of a high performing team in a high-profile, fast-paced environment. The candidate will apply advanced principles, theories, and concepts for highly classified systems, while also effectively communicating complex results with management and executive leadership.

In this position, you will provide System Engineering Technical Assistance (SETA) to the Space RCO at Kirtland AFB, NM OR El Segundo, CA. The Space RCO is one of three US Space Force acquisition organizations and is the one specializing in delivering first-of systems to fill quick-turn needs to deliver operational capability to the USSF. For each project, Space RCO sets up small, agile and empowered teams, to include program manager, technical specialists, contracting, finance, security, and they use right acquisition strategies to set the effort up for success. You will work in one of these small teams and provide in-depth background on satellite vehicle bus and/or subsystem assembly, integration and testing.

Role and Responsibilities*

  • Serves as program advisory lead for planning and negotiating transition requirements for SpRCO programs to SpOC.

  • Rapidly develops and fields new, highly classified space capabilities for operations, establishes operational and tactical applications, and conducts research to meet emerging space-centric needs.

  • Supports management and execution across the entire portfolio of programs and ensures programs are properly coordinated and lessons learned are applied efficiently for rapid fielding.

  • Provides detailed analysis, evaluation and recommendations for improvements, optimization development and/or maintenance efforts for client specific or mission critical challenges/issues.

  • Coordinates with internal and external stakeholders to verify and track program needs. Coordination will include producing, tracking, coordinating all agreements and documentation necessary for SpRCO systems to transition seamlessly into a framework for organizing, training, and equipping the United States Space Force

  • Coordinates with external agencies to include operational units, higher headquarters, Combatant Command (COCOM) staffs, other acquisition activities, and research and development functions Supports and advises acquisition and program management functions, advises government management on design challenges, operational delivery, and integration, and supports system program reviews.

  • Assists in acquisition planning and technical requirements development.

  • Helps the government assess the technical sufficiency, cost, quality, and timely delivery of program deliverables.

  • Drafts, reviews, and edits final program reports, documents, and briefings.

  • Initiates, supervises, and/or develops requirements from a project’s inception to conclusion for complex to extremely complex programs.

  • Aids in the development of a Monthly Status Report on all support efforts including updates in status and performance, major activities, challenges and opportunities.

  • Translate results into simple, actionable recommendations or easily differentiated courses of action.

  • Communicate clearly, concisely, and with technical accuracy—oral and written.

  • Provides strategic advice, technical guidance and expertise to program and project staff.

Qualifications:

Qualifications and Education Requirements*

Required skills:

  • Ten (10) years DoD/IC, or relevant industry hand on work experience on commercial and/or government satellite systems.

  • Understanding of space operational environment and corresponding mission user needs.

  • Experience performing spacecraft system engineering, development, manufacturing, integration, and test.

  • Experience developing satellite test and requirements verification plans.

  • Experience working satellite structural, mechanical, thermal, dynamics, propulsion, mass properties.

  • Experience analyzing and developing contract data requirements lists and deliverables.

    Desired skills:

  • Fifteen (15) years DoD/IC, or relevant industry hand on work experience on commercial and/or government satellite systems.

  • Experience leading satellite assembly, integration and testing for large space systems.

  • Previous experience as Chief Engineer for a large national security space program

  • Experience with rapid build, qualification testing both at system and component level

  • Experience with integrated air, space, and cyberspace capabilities.

  • Experience as a SETA in a government program office.

  • Experience with ACAT I/II level acquisition programs.

    Education:

  • An applicable engineering degree from a program from an accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).

  • Relevant MS/ME degree.

    Clearance:

  • Active TOP SECRET clearance with sensitive compartmentalized information (SCI) and special access program (SAP) eligibility.

  • No less than two (2) years total SAP and/or SCI environment experience and 1-year total within last 5 years.

  • Candidate must maintain a TS/SCI clearance as a condition of employment and be willing to submit to a Counter-Intelligence polygraph.

    Work Location & Travel:

  • This position is full-time, on site at Kirtland AFB, NM OR El Segundo, CA and will require travel up to 25% of time within the continental United States.

    Target salary range for the El Segundo location:

    $175,000……………$250,000

The offered rate will be based on the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, abilities and/or experience and in consideration of internal parity.

Additional Compensation:

KBR may offer bonuses, commissions, or other forms of compensation to certain job titles or levels, per internal policy or contractual designation. Additional compensation may be in the form of sign on bonus, relocation benefits, short term incentives, long term incentives, or discretionary payments for exceptional performance.
