City Of Albuquerque Plans Analyst in Albuquerque, New Mexico

Position Summary

Analyze, review and inspect residential, commercial or industrial construction building plans to ensure compliance with all applicable adopted building, electrical, and/or mechanical/plumbing codes and ordinances; work directly with the general public, architects, engineers, developers and contractors to verify code compliance of construction drawings; act as liaison for the department in answering questions to the general public as it relates to residential, commercial or industrial building construction plans; research and provide information on new building codes and regulations, and perform a variety of technical tasks relative to plan review and code compliance.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements

Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year-for-year basis.

High School diploma or GED;and

Eight (8) years of experience in construction plan review or commercial or residential installation of building, electrical, mechanical, or plumbing systems.

Additional Requirements:

Possession of a valid New Mexico Drivers License, or the ability to obtain one by the date of hire. Possession of a City Operators Permit (COP) within 6 months from date of hire

Preferred Knowledge
  • Principles and practices of residential, commercial or industrial building, electrical, and/or mechanical/plumbing inspections
  • Operational characteristics of residential, commercial or industrial building, electrical, and/or mechanical/plumbing systems
  • Principles and procedures of record keeping
  • Methods and materials used in construction of residential, commercial or industrial buildings, including electrical, mechanical and plumbing systems
  • Principles and practices of residential, commercial or industrial construction plan analysis
  • Advanced principles of mathematics including algebra
  • Technical drawings, advanced mathematics, handbook formulas and tables
  • Office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
  • Pertinent Federal, state and local laws, codes, ordinances and regulations related to assigned area of inspection responsibility
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Analyze residential, commercial or industrial building construction plans to ensure compliance with applicable codes, standards and regulations
  • Read construction documents, plans and specifications
  • Understand, interpret, research and explain applicable building, electrical, and/or mechanical/plumbing codes, regulations and ordinances
  • Read and interpret construction plans and specifications
  • Maintain accurate logs and records
  • Perform residential, commercial or industrial building, electrical, and/or mechanical/plumbing plan analysis activities
  • Apply mathematical principles to verify calculations to ensure that drawings and specifications are in compliance with applicable codes
  • Perform basic computer operations using a variety of software
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public, architects, engineers, developers and contractors in a professional manner
  • Work independently in the absence of supervision
  • Communicate clearly and concisely in a professional manner
  • Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
