Leidos Opto-Mechanical Engineer in Albuquerque, New Mexico
Description
Our Directed Energy team in Albuquerque is looking for an Opto-Mechanical Engineer to troubleshoot, repair, test, design and build optical, laser, and mechanical systems. This is an exciting opportunity to work with modern equipment in cutting-edge laboratories at the Air Force Research Laboratories (AFRL) on Kirtland AFB, where you will be part of a team that investigates laser and high power microwave directed energy technologies. The successful candidate will work closely with both Leidos and government engineers and scientists in a small group setting.
Primary Responsibilities
Design, procure, install and operate optical and mechanical components and systems, including optical measuring devices, chillers, vacuum pumps and other laboratory equipment.
Lead installation of new hardware and fixtures to expand laboratory capabilities and capacity.
Procure items necessary for laboratory operation, maintenance, and upgrades.
Basic Qualifications
Associates degree in optics, engineering, or other relate technical field.
Understanding of optical and laser systems and ancillary components and systems
Proficency with CAD software such as SolidWorks
Proficiency with optics design software such as Zemax
Twenty or more years maintaining and repairing optical and/or laser and mechanical systems in a laboratory environment.
Work in a clean room environment
Engage in technical research and development in a fast-paced environment.
Work well with Leidos and government staff.
Acquire and maintain a DoD secret clearance.
Preferred Qualifications
Advanced skills with troubleshooting and resolving optical, laser, and mechanical issues.
Experience with fiber lasers.
Experience working on a military base in a customer facility
Hold an active government security clearance.
Have strong innovation, analytical and diagnostic skills.
About Our Team
Our Directed Energy team in Albuquerque consists of approximately 100 scientists, engineers, technicians, drafters, fabricators and support staff with backgrounds in advanced physics, electrical and mechanical engineering, electromagnetics, lasers, and high-power microwaves. For over three decades our team has worked with government laboratories to push the limits of the state-of-the-art in several high-tech fields and continue to do so on several programs.

Pay Range:
Pay Range $85,150.00 - $153,925.00
