THE DOWNS OF ALBUQUERQUE Bartender in Albuquerque, New Mexico

We are looking for an enthusiastic bartender to provide an excellent guest drinking experience. Good bartenders will be able to create classic and innovative drinks exceeding customers needs and expectations. Compensation includes salary and tips.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Immediately greets, and makes welcome, each guest seated in assigned station. Takes initial drink order immediately after guest has being seated.
  • Maintains current and accurate information regarding drink menus (i.e., pronunciation, preparation techniques, seasonings, garnishes and presentation). Suggests items to guests based on expressed guest preference. Up-sells appetizers, beverages, desserts in accordance with restaurant/bar service standards.
  • Correctly enters food and beverage orders into the POS system to ensure accurate preparation of product.
  • Delivers prepared beverage to the appropriate guest within three minutes of completed production of order..
  • Itemizes, totals, and presents check for payment to correct customers.
  • Assists and oversees bar backs, as necessary, in bussing, cleaning, re-stocking and garnish preparation.
  • Operates a cash register/POS system, ringing proper amount into the register and giving the guest or server the correct change; accounts for all cash, charge and complimentary sales according to established procedure; maintains integrity of all financial controls and responsibilities.
  • Maintains cleanliness of designated areas as directed in accordance with established health and safety standards.
  • Deep cleans restaurant/bar equipment (tables, chairs, booths, soda and juice dispensers, coffee machines), as scheduled, or required.
  • Operates and maintains equipment as required in accordance with established guidelines and safety procedures.
  • Completes assigned side work as directed.
  • Provides personalized service and uses guests names and preferences.
  • Recognizes VIP players and ensures they receive the appropriate service.
  • Knows and promotes current casino events and programs and can give guests directions to all casino areas.
  • Responsible for bar set-ups as outlined by the beverage manager or designates.
  • Maintains cleanliness of beverage storeroom, walk in, liquor cages, ice caddies and other areas as assigned.
  • Follows set standards of bartending and cashiering as outlined by the beverage manager.
  • Follows safety rules established in the department and company.
  • Responsible for reporting any theft, suspicious activity, or other behavior that goes against company regulations and standards or places the company, its employees, owners, guests, or equipment at risk.
  • Transports bar items and equipment to various locations on and off property as assigned using great care to avoid injury, damage, and loss of product.
  • Completes beverage inventories with the help of the beverage supervisor.
  • Cuts fruit garnishes as assigned along with other set up duties.
  • Knows resort drink list and is proficient in making drinks correctly in a timely manner.
  • Follows correct pour procedures at all times to include using a jigger, checking Identification of guests that appear under age, and does not serve drinks to guests that appear to be intoxicated.
  • Calls for assistance from manager/supervisor on duty when there is a problem guest or issue that needs attention.
  • Needs to be flexible with work schedule and willing to help out in other beverage department outlets as needed.
  • This position is not limited to those duties listed in the job description. Duties and responsibilities can be changed, expanded, reduced or deleted to meet business needs of the company.
  • Requirements
  • Must be at least 21 years of age
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Two years bartending experience in a high volume, sophisticated restaurant/bar preferred.
  • Read, write, speak and understand English fluently.
  • Excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Available to work required schedule which may include weekends, late nights, early morning, holidays and overtime as needed
  • Must be able to maintain a neat, professional, well groomed appearance and uphold company appearance/dress standards
  • Proficient in making all manner of drinks to include classics, traditional, contemporary, shots, as well as moderate experience/knowledge in wine, ports, cordials, and other spirits and alcoholic beverages.
  • Must be able to get a New Mexico Alcohol Server Permit.

Physical Demands/Work Environment

Able to tolerate second-hand smoke, noise, bright lights

Able to work at a fast pace in an often crowded/noisy environment

Must be physically mobile with reasonable accommodation

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. (Glass racks, coffee urns, bins of flatware, supplies to restock service stations)

Must be able to lift trays with food (35 lbs.) above shoulder level

Must be able to pull or push 100 lbs. (Tables and chairs as required to provide appropriate seating arrangements for customers)

Must be able to reach above and below the shoulder, grip small items (i.e., flatware, plates, cups, glasses), bend, stoop and twist while carrying restaurant stock to and from supply areas; able to reach across tables; able to stand and walk for up to 6 hours; able to use hand motions when cleaning and wiping counters and table tops
