This role will require you to balance time between various activities such as travel to buying shows, travel to our retail locations to train and merchandise, analyzing the performance of existing inventory, receiving shipments from vendors, building store location orders, and coordinating with other departments as needed to ensure the success of the new goods program.

This is an Exempt position and salary is negotiable, DOE.

Summary: The Purchasing Manager/New Goods is responsible for the purchasing, distribution, database management, merchandising, inventory tracking and sales analysis for the New Goods program. The Purchasing Manager/New Goods will be required to travel regularly to buying shows held at various locations and to our retail locations.   • Adherence to the attendance and punctuality policies of Goodwill.
  • Exhibits excellent customer service skills as related to the position.
  • Ensures actions are consistent with Goodwill ethics, policies, procedures, goals and mission.
  • Identifies and selects appropriate new goods products to merchandise for sale in Goodwill retail stores and negotiates cost of goods as well as shipping and handling fees.
  • Develops and maintains vendor relationships.
  • Maintains a buying calendar that is designed to ensure a timely and seasonally appropriate level of inventory is available to exceed budgeted sales expectations.
  • Executes inventory replenishment buys for normally stocked products.
  • Implements a pricing strategy that aligns with our "low cost" brand image while also maintaining an acceptable gross margin.
  • Performs a monthly analysis of new goods products and adjusts assortment, pricing and inventory levels as needed.
  • Develops merchandising plans for all new goods products.
  • Maintains accurate inventory data within the POS system and leads the quarterly inventory count process.
  • Receives shipments of new goods and verifies accuracy of shipment.
  • Creates individual store shipment quantities of new goods.
  • Coordinates the delivery of new goods to stores with the transportation department.
  • Travels to retail locations to conduct training, update or set up new goods displays.
  • Serves as the primary contact for retail locations regarding any issues with new goods.
  • Knowledge, understanding and compliance with Safety policies and procedures.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality.
  • Follows all loss prevention guidelines and security measures.
  • Maintains a positive, team-oriented relationship with all staff and departments.
  • Attends meetings and training sessions as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that would lead to successful operation of department, team and/or mission.

Requirements

Physical Demands and Work Environment: While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to use hands, fingers, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; see, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and walk, and may be required to stand for eight or more hours. The Employee will generally perform work indoors in a retail setting where the employee will have occasional contact with the public. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl and lift/move up to 50lbs and may occasionally be exposed to outside weather conditions.

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and or abilities required for the position. Individuals must be able to pass a criminal background check and drug test.

  • High School Diploma/GED, College Degree preferred.
  • Five years retail work experience with a minimum of 1 year at supervisory level.
  • Two years inventory purchasing experience preferred.
