Proctors Collaborative Stage Management Apprentice in Albany, New York
Proctors Collaborative is the Capital District’s leading regional arts organization with performing arts venues in Albany, Schenectady and Saratoga, and education, civic engagement and economic development initiatives throughout the region. Capital Repertory Theatre (theREP) in Albany, seeks a Stage Management Apprentice to join its production team. This position is full-time, hourly with benefits.
theREP’s Stage Management professional training program is a two- to three-year program focusing on individuals who are interested in becoming resident Equity (Union) production stage managers and/or company managers. The program provides participants with hands-on experience in an award-winning professional, regional theatre. Participants receive a comprehensive understanding of Actors Equity Association rules and regulations, standards of backstage behavior, stage management and company management responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assist in:
scheduling and running rehearsals
coordinating the work of the stage crew
calling cues and possibly actors' entrances during performance
overseeing the entire show each time it is performed
- Train in how to:
Complete Equity contracts
Organize payroll documents
Arrange transportation
Prepare lodging for cast and crew
- Complete other duties as assigned for theREP’s main stage, On the Go (in-school tours), Summer Stage productions and company management activities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Possess a desire to become a resident, professional stage manager or company manager
Ability to make a multi-year commitment to this training
Backstage and/or stage management experience in academic, community or professional theatre
Have a positive attitude and willingness to learn
Demonstrate excellent communication skills
Embrace work that includes a diverse group of people
Exhibit punctuality and organizational skills
Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
Ability to work a varied schedule that includes days, evenings and weekends
Must be at least 21 years old
Reside in the Capital Region
Have a valid driver’s license
B.A. or B.F.A. in Theatre or Liberal Arts or equivalent work experience
Knowledge of a variety of plays is a plus.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Ability to stand for long periods of time
Withstand long working days
Lift 40 pounds
Bend, twist and squat.
