Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Public Health Representative IV will be located in Albany, New York and responsible for providing coordination of surveillance activities for the Emerging Infections Program (EIP). Responsibilities include active and passive laboratory-based surveillance activities related to core and enhanced surveillance components of the EIP including, but not limited to, the Active Bacterial Core Surveillance (ABCs), the Foodborne Diseases Active Surveillance Network (FoodNet), Respiratory Virus Hospitalization Surveillance Network (RESP-NET), and special studies and projects. The incumbent will establish and maintain relationships with Capital District Region local health departments, community-based organizations, health care providers, laboratories, and other health partners to improve communicable disease investigation, prevention and reporting efforts. The incumbent will provide communicable disease and emerging infection pathogen information and education to healthcare professionals and community groups. The incumbent will also supervise staff, including students, and perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a related field and three years of relevant experience in a health, human service or community-based organization, that includes providing direct patient/client services, performing regulatory activities, conducting epidemiological research, and/or direct clinical care as a healthcare provider, or closely related experience; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and five years of such experience; OR seven years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience. At least one year of experience must have included program management or supervision of staff.

Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Epidemiology and/or Public Health. At least three years of experience in communicable disease epidemiology and public health surveillance; public health surveillance data collection, management, and evaluation. Experience with abstracting health information from medical records. Experience with electronic information systems for laboratory and communicable disease reporting. Familiarity with human subjects' protection policies and procedures. Demonstrated excellent organizational and analytic skills. Demonstrated strong written and oral communication skills, including experience with public speaking and preparation of documents and reports. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and experience with REDCap projects. Previous laboratory bench, electronic health record system, or medical experience. Supervisory experience.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.

This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will be available.
