Job Description:

Responsibilities

The Public Health Representative II will assist in conducting epidemiological surveillance of suspected and confirmed reports of HIV infection. The incumbent will review paper-based and electronic medical records and interview health care professionals to achieve the goal of complete reporting of HIV cases. Geographic coverage includes resolving the backlog of assignments with facilities in the Capital Region. The incumbent will assist in identifying potential reporting sources, maintaining effective working partnerships, and working with surveillance colleagues in the region and across the state. The incumbent will also assist in educating clinicians on New York State HIV reporting requirements and HIV testing; prepare written reports and perform other appropriate related duties related to epidemiological studies.

Grant funded position expected to last 12 months.Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree in a related field and one year of relevant experience in a health, human service or community-based organization, that includes providing direct patient/client services, performing regulatory activities, conducting epidemiological research, and/or direct clinical care as a healthcare provider, or closely related experience; OR an Associate's degree in a related field and three years of such experience; OR five years of such experience. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of experience.

A valid driver's license that is in good standing.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with public health surveillance and data collection via medical record review and interviewing. Knowledge of HIV/AIDS. Professional experience interacting with medical professionals.

Conditions of Employment

Grant funded position expected to last 12 months from the incumbent's start date. Compliance with funding requirements such as time and effort reporting, grant deliverables, and contract deliverables, is required.

A valid driver's license that is in good standing.

Valid and unrestricted authorization to work in the U.S. is required. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.

Travel, up to 25% of the time, will be required.


This position requires that the incumbent will report to the official work location and live within commuting distance to the official work location. Telecommuting will not be available.
