Albany Medical Center Equip Utility Technician in Albany, New York

Responsible for detailed inventory tracking with paper or handheld device, collection, cleaning, operational check, and distribution of patient care equipment. Responsible for establishing and maintaining working relationships with Nursing and Materiel Coordinators to achieve optimal levels of equipment utilization. Physically performs "hands on" deliveries/pickups of patient care equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but not limited to the following:

  • Maintains an Accurate Equipment Inventory - keeps current assigned official inventory in AMH Storeroom of the following Medical Equipment: Heating Cooling Machines, Kangaroo Pumps, IV Pumps, PCA Pumps, Sequential Machines, Suction Machines, T-pumps, Traction Cart and Trapeze. Identifies inaccuracies in inventory, works semi-independently to resolve computer data inaccuracies in a timely manner with patient care equipment.

  • Floor Rounding - performs morning, afternoon, evening, and night rounds (more if necessary), to all Hospital areas for patient care equipment. Updates patient care equipment database with counts.

  • Wipes down equipment – using approved cleaning with Wipes and performs quality check on equipment to ensure equipment is in good working order.

  • Tag Outs - brings broken equipment to Clinical Engineering, and in addition to equipment that is over its required PM check.

  • Performs delivery and pick-up of Traction Carts - delivers and picks up cart; when returning Traction Cart to Distribution, refills cart with traction pieces; where applicable, charges back unit where cart was picked up from for Steinman holders / pins, Nylon Tape and Zimmer Spreader bars.

  • Investigation of customer concerns - performs investigation of all customer issues involving equipment availability. Interacts with various Nursing departments to discover status of orders. Contacts and updates customers relative to status of their concern; reports significant issues to supervision.

  • Rounding - interacts with various Nursing Unit Staff members (Nurse Manager, Asst. Nurse Managers and Materiel Coordinator’s) to insure consistent movement of patient care equipment between units and AMRDS.

  • OR Schedule - monitor’s daily OR schedule, to ensure sufficient pumps are available in the PACU, and to ensure that surgeries are not delayed due to IV and PCA pump availability.

  • ED PYXIS - reviews PYXIS replenishment printouts on an hourly basis, to ensure IV pumps are available at designated PYXIS machines in the Emergency Room.

  • Leadership Rounds - perform Scheduled IV pump, PCA pump and Sequential pumps (TEDS) rounds with Nurse Manager / Asst. Nurse Manager or Charge Nurse at scheduled times during the day. Reports to EUT supervisor, and or manager when nursing leadership is unable to round on their floor.

  • Performs ALL other duties or responsibilities within Supply Chain as directed by management.

Qualification Requirements:

Education:

  • High School Diploma or GED required.

Experience:

  • Experience in a service position involving Supply Chain, or Customer Service.

  • Prior experience within a fully computerized environment.

  • Demonstrated basic level competency with Microsoft Windows.

Communication Skills:

  • Ability to read and comprehend instructions.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to develop win-win relationships across of levels of Center Staff.

Mathematical Skills:

  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Professional Skills:

  • Excellent people/ customer service orientation skills.

  • Innate curiosity to learn and understand relationships.

  • Knowledge of various Materiel’s Management software tools.

  • Ability to perform the job according to conduct defined by the AMC Code of Conduct and Employee Manual.

  • Ability to use good judgment when performing the functions of the job or when interacting with others.

  • Accept and carry out direction, work cooperatively with others and avoid interpersonal conflict.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Independently organize work to meet established deadlines for submission and completion.

  • Gather data from appropriate resources, including on-line web sites and paper-based documentation.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, use hands to probe, handle or feel objects, tools, or controls, reach with hands and arms, and speak and hear.

  • The employee is regularly required to work on their feet for their shift of 8 hours, and occasionally need to stoop, kneel, or crouch.

  • The employee must occasionally push a cart weighing up to 50 lbs and rolling equipment weighing less than 50 pounds.

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to focus on objects.

Work Environment:

The work environmental conditions described below are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.

While performing this job, the employees would spend 7-8 hours on their feet, moving and cleaning various patent care equipment.

Part of his/ her time will be spent going into patient rooms with nursing looking for equipment not in use.

Such areas have variable environmental conditions, including dust, noise, and room temperature.

While performing this job, the employee will spend part of his/her time at the end of their shift working in an office environment, interacting with basic office tools including computers, phones, etc.

The noise level is usually moderate.
