About This Position:

We are seeking a qualified Traffic Engineer with 10 plus years' experience to become a part of our growing Traffic Engineering and Planning Group for our White Plains Office. Our traffic engineers work on a variety of projects and interact with transit professionals, highway engineers, structure engineers and our construction inspection staff. We are looking for an individual to successfully take the lead in the development of existing and new business opportunities to increase our market share of private and public sectors transportation work in the lower Hudson Valley and to support the firm's overall growth strategy.

This position requires an action-driven professional who can identify, develop, and maintain strategic business relationships with potential clients and teaming partners. This position will work closely with the existing traffic and planning staff in White Plains, and the technical Group Leader based in Albany.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Experience managing traffic and planning projects in New York State including both public and private funded projects
  • Strong organizational skills and an ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines
  • Strong communication, presentation, and client relation skills - both verbal and written
  • A network of clients and contacts in the lower Hudson Valley is preferred.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Identify new project opportunities utilizing network connections and market research
  • Proactive meetings with potential and current clients
  • Collaborate to develop teaming and operational strategies in response to the need of the market or client, including identification and negotiation with potential teaming partners
  • Prepare technical proposals, attend interviews, and secure contracts
  • Manage projects through implementation, including being responsible for staff and other resource planning
  • Attracting and hiring staff to grow the design group
  • Attend conferences and networking events, and develop new leads
  • Provide project quality reviews

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan, schedule, conduct or coordinate detailed phases of engineering work in part of a major project.
  • Plan and conduct work requiring some judgment and independent evaluation.
  • Apply standard technology and procedures.
  • Conduct analysis choosing appropriate applications.
  • Anticipate bigger project objectives
  • Attend project meetings and present specific aspects of engineering assignments.
  • Responsible for invoices.
  • Responsible for tracking project progress relative to budget expenditures.

  • Assesses courses of resolution to ethical dilemmas in complicated situations.

Minimum Years of Experience

  • 20+

Education

  • B.S. or M.S. Engineering, master's degree or Equivalent Experience Preferred.

Certification/Licensure

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) License, reciprocity in multiple states.

Technical Responsibilities

  • Performs advisory or consulting work for the organization across broad project areas or within a specialized area with innovative/complex aspects.
  • Assesses practices and requirements to achieve sustainable performance of complex engineering projects from a systems perspective.

Project and Task Management

  • Oversees multiple large or multidiscipline project teams.
  • Develops projects needed for accomplishing the objectives of the practice.
  • Evaluates project management plans for complex engineering projects.
  • Develops risk mitigation plans to address project risks.
  • Evaluates effectiveness of leaders and teams.
  • May manage projects, up to $250,000 in yearly value, without GAI President's approval, but is a small component of overall work.

Management Responsibility

  • Receives general administrative direction.
  • Develops organizational strategy for staff development through mentored experience, continuing education, and self-development.

Communication Skills

  • Negotiates critical and controversial issues with leadership.
  • Represents the organization at important functions and conferences.

Pay Range:

Westchester - White Plains, NY: $60/hour - $86.55/hour

Pay is based on applicant's ability/experience and will be rated accordingly.
