CITY OF ALAMOSA Concrete Specialist/Equipment Operator in ALAMOSA, Colorado

POSITION: Concrete Specialist/ Equipment Operator

DUTIES: > Manages the daily field operations of the City's concrete replacement program. This includes coordination with customers for the removal and replacement of sidewalks, driveways, curb and gutter. > Execute and oversee the replacement of agreed-upon replacement areas. > Performs Street maintenance and repair work within the assigned division when not performing concrete replacement work.

> Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with property owners considering or enrolled in the concrete replacement program. > Seasonally execute the daily work of forming and placing concrete for sidewalks, driveways, curb and gutters. > Performs maintenance work necessary to preserve the infrastructure of his or her particular division through the use of hand-held power and manually operated tools, manual labor, and light, medium, and heavy equipment. > Operates or assists in the operation of equipment required to perform specialized maintenance work of his or her particular division such as crack sealers, Snow plows and sanders, pothole patchers, air compressors, pumps, mowers, trimming equipment, etc. > Performs corrective and preventive maintenance on all divisional equipment to include inspecting and documenting issues with fleet maintenance. > Responsible for all types of site concrete activities including paving, sidewalks, curbs footings, foundations and retaining walls, etc. > Effectively measure concrete for removal and replacement > Build estimates and agreements on computer > Inspect and grade for elevations from survey stakes. > Orders procurement of tools and materials to be delivered at specified times to conform to work schedules. > Confers with and directs personnel and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, and coordinating various phases of planning to prevent delays. > Obtains and maintains a current flagger certification > Conduct traffic control when working in high-traffic areas. Including set up and removal of traffic control devices. > Accurately document daily activities as required. > Serve as crew leader in the absence of superintendent and supervisor > Perform and respond to on-call or emergency duties during non-duty hours as needed > Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues and city-information > May assist other Departments as needed

REQUIREMENTS: > High school graduation or the equivalent. > One year of working experience with concrete. > Flagger certification > May require the operation of motor-driven vehicles/equipment to off-site locations for work or training. >A Class B CDL with airbrake endorsement is required within 1 year. > Essential duties include extensive standing and walking in adverse weather conditions such as extreme heat and cold while carrying approximately forty pounds of equipment. > Frequent bending and stooping; frequent lifting and carrying equipment weighing over 50 pounds. > Physical activities required to perform essential duties include hearing conversation and traffic, speaking in an understandable voice, see well enough to operate-motor driven equipment in traffic and off-road, and to use power tools and manually-operated equipment. > Position requires the ability to walk or stand for long periods of t me. > Position requires sufficient strength and manual dexterity to grasp, hold, carry, and use power and manually-operated hand-held tools, and equipment > Position requires the ability to stand, bend, stoop, reach and handle to perform maintenance activities, lifting and carrying objects heavier than 50 pounds.

PREFERRED SKILLS: > Understand and follow oral and written instructions in the English language. > Work cooperatively with other City employees and the public. > Ability to safely use and understand both power and manually-operated hand tools, medium and heavy equipment. > Communicate clearly verbally and in writing, with tact and courtesy, in order to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, assigned personnel, other employees, and the general public. > Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others.

WAGE: $25.41 - $26.68/Hr.
