Your Specific Responsibilities

  • This position serves as a Local Veterans’ Employment Representative (LVER) responsible for assisting with the development of the service delivery strategies for veterans and educating partner staff with current employment initiatives and programs for veterans.

  • This position confers with the supervisor to assist in identifying improvement processes and develop solutions for the Job for Veterans State Grant (JVSG) program.

  • Performs duties outlined in Title 38 of the United States Code (U.S.C.), 4104(b)(1)(2), as amended by Public Law 100-323. The incumbent will assure that the local office is in compliance with Federal Regulations, standards of performance and contractual provisions of the grant agreement mandating special services for Veterans.

  • The following duties are included in this code:

  • Creates, develops, and implements local policies and procedures to ensure compliance with JVSG regulations and guidance and confers with personnel to ensure compliance with policy and processes set by the State Veterans Program Coordinator.

  • Provides training to LWDB staff, at both the state and local level and co-located partners on compliance with JVSG regulations and guidance as needed.

  • Reviews programs, services, forms, and reports utilized by the JVSG program at the local and State level and confers with management to identify improvement processes.

  • Conducts outreach to employers and engages in advocacy efforts with hiring executives to increase employment opportunities for veterans.

  • Conducts job search workshops, establishes job search groups and participates in job and career fairs.

  • Works with federal contractors on recruiting of Veterans.

  • Advocates for the hiring of disabled veterans and assists all veterans with gaining and retaining employment.

  • Creates and conducts capacity building programs for employers and veterans.

  • Facilitates and oversees veteran priority of service requirements regarding employment, training, and placement services furnished to veterans by all staff of the CareerSource syst

  • Promotes credentialing and licensing opportunities for Veterans.

  • Provides operational oversight for all Career Center staff to include regular training on the implementation of the JVSG program at local levels.

  • Develops and implements program management procedures to ensure the provision of services to eligible veterans.

  • Maintains regular contact with community leaders, employers, labor unions, training programs, and veterans’ organizations to keep them advised of eligible veterans and spouses available for employment and training.

  • Advises eligible veterans and spouses of opportunities for employment and training.

  • In accordance with JVSG regulations, provides guidance and facilitates training of labor exchange services including intake and assessment, counseling, testing, job-search assistance, and referral and placement.

  • Assists, through automated data processing, in securing and maintaining current information regarding available employment and training opportunities for veterans and their spouses.

  • Participates in Office of Federal Contractor Compliance Programs (OFCCP) Audit information requests from Federal Government partners by providing answers, examples, descriptions of services, and other necessary information in both DEO and federal audits.

  • Consults with State and local officials on matters applicable to the JVSG program.

  • Performs other Veteran duties as needed.

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Working knowledge/experience using Microsoft Office applications, incl. Word, Excel, PowerPoint

  • Knowledge of the principles and techniques of effective customer service

  • Knowledge of the basic sales principles and skills

  • Skilled in group presentations or workshop instruction and/or facilitation

  • Ability to promote and market the Career Center

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in individual and group settings, both verbally and in writing

  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team

  • Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques

  • Ability to provide excellent customer service

  • Ability to deal with the public in a tactful, courteous and effective manner

  • Ability to conduct effective interviews

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others

  • Ability to work independently by planning, organizing, and coordinating work assignments

  • Ability to prepare reports to include recording, evaluating, and analyzing data

    Qualifications:

    As a condition of pre-employment eligibility, a Level 2 security background screening is required, which consists of fingerprinting and a check of local, state, and national law enforcement records.

    Minimum:

  • Some travel may be required, approx. 60%.

  • The duties and responsibilities of this position must be performed at the official work site of the Department.

  • The selected candidate may be required to work weekends or after regular work hours at job fairs, or community meetings once or twice a month.

  • Must be a veteran and or qualified dependent

    Preferred:

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite

  • Prior advocacy experience

  • Prior HR Experience

  • Prior experience within a CareerSource center

  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in the field of Sociology or Psychology.

  • Professional or nonprofessional experience in areas related

  • The Local Veteran Employment Representative LVER will assist employers to fill their open jobs with qualified veterans.

  • The LVER will advocate for veterans to assist them acquire careers and occupations that are best suited to their knowledge, experience, and abilities.

  • The LVER will inform employers of the benefits of hiring a veteran, such as well trained, reliable, conscientious and dedicated employees that will get the job done.

  • The LVER will also educate employers of the different services that we offer them at our local Career Center.

  • Your role as a LVER is a very important role within our community as it assists with alleviating unemployment of our veteran population and increases our economy. The economy is the wealth and resources of our community especially in terms of production and the consumption of goods and services

  • The job is located in downtown Gainesville, Florida, at 1112 N Main St. and accessible to restaurants, stores and other local businesses. The name of the business is CareerSource North Central Florida. You will be working in Jobs for Veterans State Grant Department JVSG.

  • The LVER position will be responsible for putting our unemployed veterans back to work or assisting in finding a better position for those that are.

  • The LVER position is a very important role in our career center as it educates all staff on new veteran updates and benefits, trains staff on how to provide priority of service to our veterans, educate all staff on what a veteran is and how to distinguish between the different types of veterans.

  • LVER staff conducts outreach to employers to advocate for the hiring of veterans. They also work with businesses, contractors, and employer organizations to develop career opportunities for veterans.
