Location: Akron, OH

The Senior/Staff Fuel Specialist for the Fuels team is responsible for fuel procurement in support of the generation forecasts. These responsibilities include working with Generation Commercial Operations to determine fuel requirements, issuing requests for fuel supply proposals, collaborating with FE legal in the drafting of fuel purchase contracts, and monitoring vendor performance on fuel quality and supply. Additional responsibilities include record keeping and report generation in support of the annual Expanded Net Energy Cost (ENEC) process for rate adjustment in West Virginia.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist and advise Director - Fuel Procurement

  • Assist and advise in the determination of fuel needs for plants

  • Issue coal RFP's as needed

  • Purchase or sell fuel (coal) to balance FE position to needs of plants

  • Maintain coal position data and present reports during weekly and monthly meetings

  • Monitor coal supplier performance to ensure consistent delivery

  • Negotiate and assist in completion of coal contracts and amendments

  • Maintain regular communication with suppliers to maintain working relationships

  • Assist in determination of annual, quarterly and monthly tonnage nominations

  • Work with groups studying short- and long-range coal price forecasts

  • Assist in fuels department budgeting process

  • Monitor and report financial performance of key suppliers

  • Attend regularly scheduled mine plan review meetings with key suppliers

  • Supply coal price, volume and contract information to other departments

  • Monitor coal markets for price and production trends

  • Maintain FileNet archive of coal contracts and documents

  • Enter coal purchase information in Paragon, company risk data base

  • Maintain and provide data for WV Public Utility Commission annual fuel cost recovery review

  • Monitor as-shipped quality of coal deliveries

  • Work with suppliers and Station personnel on quantity and quality related issues

  • Communicate directly with legal department on contract related issues

  • Provide back-up coverage for Harrison natural gas nomination process

  • Submit bi-monthly coal and reagent inventory data for PJM review

Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business, Finance, Engineering, Economics or related technical degree is preferred, and an advanced degree is a plus.

  • Extensive knowledge of the coal industry, coal forecasted pricing, and delivery logistics is desired.

  • Interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills are necessary.
